As a Christian man, it is your responsibility to see that your family is fed. Yet, God tells us in Amos 8:11-13 that there is a famine coming. So what should you do? Well, in Genesis chapter forty one, we see what Joseph did when God told him through the dreams and mouth of Pharaoh. Joseph stockpiled food, food enough to fed the Egyptians and those from surrounding countries of seven years.
So, I would think that in preparing for a famine that you know is coming, because God said it was coming, that you would want to stockpile food, for you as the provider of your family would not want your family to starve. . But, what if it isn’t food that this new God given famine is all about? What if it is seed? Then you would stockpile seed, for as the God ordained provider of your family you would not want your family to starve for lack of seed. But what if it isn’t seed, but is water? Then you would, of course, as the God ordained provider of your family stockpile water, so as to prevent your family perishing from thirst.
But look what God says this coming famine is of:
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. In that day shall the fair virgins and young men faint for thirst. Amos 8:11-13
So, as the God ordained provider and protector of your family, should you not now start stockpiling the word of God in the minds and hearts of your family?
Look at what Jesus said when comparing food to the word of God: And the devil said to Him, If Thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. Luke 4:3&4 God, Jesus, says that His word is more important to your life than bread is. Imagine how important God’s word is because Jesus, after having gone 40 days and 40 nights with no food and no water, chose His word over a steak and potatoes meal.
Now, with a famine of God’s word coming, what about your family? Are they prepared to weather a period of time with no preaching, no Bibles, no Bible study or Christian movies? You have to say no to that unless you and they have God’s word in your heart, your soul and in your mind. And how is that going to happen if you don’t do anything?
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. But, how shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe on Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher?
And how shall they preach, except they be sent? as it is written, How beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things! Romans 10:13-15
God has sent you to preach to your family my brother. He has instructed your family to be quiet in church and if they have a question to ask you when they get home. Look at what Christ tells us through the pen of His beloved Paul: Let your women keep silence in the churches: for it is not permitted unto them to speak; but they are commanded to be under obedience, as also saith the law. And if they will learn any thing, let them ask their husbands at home: for it is prohibited for women to speak in the church. 1 Corinthians 14:34
And how may I ask you, can she ask you what the preacher’s point was if you are not knowledgeable of Scripture? If after walking out of church you can answer her and your children’s questions, you are learning, but if you can’t, your family might just starve.
And even if the famine is not before rapture, for the context of Amos chapter eight sounds as if this famine is during the seven years of tribulation, fear for your family, for Christ has asked a question we should all spend time pondering.
As Jesus was telling His disciples about how God would avenge, He suddenly stopped and asked this question: Nevertheless when the Son of man cometh, shall he find faith on the earth? Luke 18:8b
Are you man enough to feed your family? Are you man enough to make sure they have the knowledge to face the coming famine, rapture, or death?
Do you read the Bible to your wife every night? Do you give your children a Bible lesson every day?
