Wednesday, January 6th, 2010 Evil? But, what is evil? Romans 13:1-4 Keyword: government
Yesterday we looked at Romans chapter 13 in a new light. Now let us continue along by taking a closer look at verses 1-4.
1 Let every soul be subject unto (hupotasso subordinate to) the higher powers (exousia, mastery (concretely, magistrate, superhuman, potentate, token of control), delegated influence:--authority, jurisdiction, liberty, power, right, strength.). For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. No one gets to be king, president, governor, or even a member of the board of selectman without God allowing it. Those that God has anointed we are to be subject to. Remember David when he had the chance to kill Saul?
6 Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, “Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp?” And Abishai said, “I will go down with thee.”
7 So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.
8 Then said Abishai to David, “God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.” 9 And David said to Abishai, “Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD'S anointed, and be guiltless?” 10 & 11a David said furthermore, “As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish. The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD'S anointed” 1 Samuel 26:6-11a
We can work against any and all in office, but we cannot lay a hand upon them unless they are arrested, charged, convicted and sentenced. For as David has shown us in verse 10, God has plenty of ways to eliminate a hindrance to His plan(s).
2 Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. The word translated as “resisteth” (today we would say “resist”) is antitassomai, and it means to range oneself against, i.e. oppose:--oppose themselves, resist. Now, you must be thinking about what I said above, that “We can work against any and all in office, but we cannot lay a hand upon them unless they are arrested, charged, convicted and sentenced. For as David has shown us in verse 10, God has plenty of ways to eliminate a hindrance to His plan(s). ” and be saying to yourself. Isn’t that resisting? And isn’t resistance wrong? Yes and no, the yes is easy to udnerstand, the no a bit more complicated and we will understand it more fully when we get to verses 3 and 4.
3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil. Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: Notice two things. First let’s harken back to David vs Saul. David would not kill Saul, but he did fight against Saul’s troops, he hid from him, he avoided him and he was building an army not subject to Saul. But more important is what God’s word tells us the ruler is suppose to do. What we are not to oppose. Look at verse three, does it not say “Rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil”? As long as a ruler supports and protects the good and uses his sword against the evil, all is well. But, when a ruler uses his sword to protect and reward the evil and against those who do good, it is a different story. How do we know that? In both Acts chapter four and Acts chapter five Peter and John were brought before the Jewish rulers and told to stop preaching Christ. They refused to obey, and continued preaching Salvation thru and only thru Christ.
4 For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Romans 13:1-4
Verse 4. The President is supposed to be God’s minister to good, a terror to those who do evil and a rewarder of those who do good. When God gives us rulers who protect abortionist, homosexuals, liars, child molesters, child rapers, murders, thieves, and other assorted nay doers, then we know we have truly messed up. For he is supposed to be a revenger to execute wrath upon those who do evil.
Good is the opposite of evil, so if you know what is good, you know what is evil, and if you know what is evil, you conversely know what is good.
As some examples let us glance through part of Leviticus 19.
11 Ye shall not steal, neither deal falsely, neither lie one to another. Lying, stealing and false dealing are evil. Telling the truth, being honest and dealing fairly and honestly are good.
12 And ye shall not swear by My name falsely, neither shalt thou profane the name of thy God: I am the LORD. Being reverent, respectful and humble before God is good, but using His name in vain as a curse or swear is evil.
13 Thou shalt not defraud thy neighbour, neither rob him: the wages of him that is hired shall not abide with thee all night until the morning. You may not like this, but paying a workman at the end of the day is good, making him wait till he feels like a begger, or has to compromise on his wages to get his money is evil.
14 Thou shalt not curse the deaf, nor put a stumblingblock before the blind, but shalt fear thy God: I am the LORD. Making jokes and comments about a deaf person to others around him or just because they can’t hear you is evil, tripping up a blind person, putting something in their path, not warning them that they are about to fall into a ditch is evil, not fearing God is evil. Yet, doing the opposite is good.
35 & 36a Ye shall do no unrighteousness in judgment, in meteyard, in weight, or in measure. Just balances, just weights, a just ephah, and a just hin, shall ye have. If you judge another unfairly by a standard other than the Bible and how you would want to be judged yourself, you are doing evil. Yet if you judge a person by God’s word and how you would want to be judged yourself, you are doing good. If you only give 15 ounces when charging for 16 ounces you are evil, yet if you add just one more ounce so that you are charging for and giving 16 ounces, you are doing that which is good.
Are you starting to understand?
Let me continue.
Abortion is evil, homosexuality is evil, idolatry is evil. Yet, the recent powers to be, Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Regan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and now Obama, have moved our government further and further away from protecting, rewarding and encouraging that which is good to encouraging, rewarding, and protecting that which is evil.
How did that happen? Why has God ordained and allowed such incompetent, corrupt, evil doers to occupy the office of ruler? Folks, in the rest of the world they may get away with blaming God, but not here in the US of A. For here in the good ole US of A we select our rulers. God has given us free will, and just as He allows us to use that free will to serve Him or the devil, He also simply ratifies and anoints whoever we choose to rule over us.
Folks we have evil rulers not because God is punishing us. We have evil rulers because we are evil and have chosen evil to rule over us to make us feel better.
Jesus put it this way: “And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than Light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the Light, neither cometh to the Light, lest his deeds should be reproved.”
Folks let’s face it, you don’t want me to be president. For if I were president, you would have to face up to the evil that you have become. I would burn your abortion clinics to the ground. I would put to death your homosexuals, your abortionists and those who lead little children away from Christ. Your porno shops, internet sites, and movie houses would close. That cheap labor from illegal immigrants would end and there would be nothing to do on Sunday but go to church.
So face it folks, you really liked Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Regan, Bush, Clinton, and Bush the second. And now you would much rather have Obama who rewards and protects the evil, than me who would burn things to the ground.
You complain about welfare, food stamps and other give aways, but you’ll take the profit from them. Roosevelt, Truman, Eisenhower, Kennedy, Johnson, Nixon, Carter, Regan, Bush, Clinton, Bush, and now Obama are padding your pockets with welfare. They either padded your pocket or helped you avoid an honest days work. I would end welfare, I would end all federal anything to the public schools, I would bail out no company. I would end the EPA and every other federal agency that is not mentioned in the US Constitution. I would use the military both to close and protect our borders and arrest, detain, and in some cases execute many in the Congress and public office, for the sword is to be used to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil.
So you say, but I’m not the recipient of food stamps or welfare. Oh yes you are. You may not own a grocery store or even work at a grocery store, but that grocery store pays taxes and you are recipients of some of the services those taxes help fund. The same with section eight housing. Look at the extra jobs created by crime. Need a lot more cops, judges, firemen and rescue personal in inner cities than you do East Stoneham, Maine. With high crime comes good paying jobs and a lot of them.
So, no God has not cast Obama on us. 52 percent of us said “I’ll have me evil any day.”. God simply said “OK kids, if that’s what you want, that’s what I’ll give you.”
But God is working and He is in control. While Obama and his god are hell bent on doing evil, God can make it for good. And I believe, this depression, the weird crop killing weather and some other things are all God’s way of opening a few sets of eyes. And that is why I am using “The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry” to get people to come to select churches in Maine. It is why we at Cornerstone Gospel church in Naples, Maine, under the leadership of Pastor Marstaller are using “The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry” and other movies every two weeks to get families to come and hear about Jesus and maybe meet Him.
What are you and your church doing? As the depression deepens and the Government becomes more and more oppressive, more and more people will be looking for something better. And that something is Jesus and Christianity.
For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. But, How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? and how shall they believe in Him of whom they have not heard? and how shall they hear without a preacher? Romans 10:13&14
