Resolutions for 2008 Nehemiah 5:13a

Tuesday, January 1st, in the year of our Lord 2008

Lord help us to this year make our new year’s resolutions as salt covenants to You.

Gentlemen and ladies, let us go to the Lord, asking Him to accept our new year’s resolutions for 2008, not as the heathen do, but as we as true Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christians should do, as salt covenants to Him and in His name.

Father in heaven, I come to You with these our promises to do in the coming year: Father I pledge to pray each day and to read my Bible each day. I cannot and will not take this pledge so lightly as to promise or pledge a specific time, but I will assure You, I pledge to You, I promise to You, and make this salt covenant with You that if You will hear my prayers, bless my prayers, and guide me to do what is right in Your sight, I will, in each 24 hour period, come to You in prayer and get to know You and Your word better by reading Your word, the Holy Bible. I do this freely and with forethought in the name of Jesus and through the Holy Spirit that dwells within me, Amen.

There you have it, my, and I strongly suggest your primary new year’s resolution. But, be wary, for to make this pledge to God the Father in the name of God the Son, through God the Holy Spirit has its risk and dangers, as well as it’s rewards and blessings.

And there was a great cry of the people and of their wives against their brethren the Jews. For there were that said, “We, our sons, and our daughters, are many: therefore we take up corn for them, that we may eat, and live.” Some also there were that said, “We have mortgaged our lands, vineyards, and houses, that we might buy corn, because of the dearth.” There were also that said, “We have borrowed money for the king's tribute, and that upon our lands and vineyards. Yet now our flesh is as the flesh of our brethren, our children as their children: and, lo, we bring into bondage our sons and our daughters to be servants, and some of our daughters are brought unto bondage already: neither is it in our power to redeem them; for other men have our lands and vineyards.”

And I was very angry when I heard their cry and these words. Then I consulted with myself, and I rebuked the nobles, and the rulers, and said unto them, “Ye exact usury, every one of his brother.” And I set a great assembly against them. And I said unto them, “We after our ability have redeemed our brethren the Jews, which were sold unto the heathen; and will ye even sell your brethren? or shall they be sold unto us?” Then held they their peace, and found nothing to answer.

Also I said, “It is not good that ye do: ought ye not to walk in the fear of our God because of the reproach of the heathen our enemies? I likewise, and my brethren, and my servants, might exact of them money and corn: I pray you, let us leave off this usury. Restore, I pray you, to them, even this day, their lands, their vineyards, their olive yards, and their houses, also the hundredth part of the money, and of the corn, the wine, and the oil, that ye exact of them.” Then said they, “We will restore them, and will require nothing of them; so will we do as thou sayest.”

Then I called the priests, and took an oath of them, that they should do according to this promise. 13 Also I shook my lap, and said, So God shake out every man from his house, and from his labour, that performeth not this promise, even thus be he shaken out, and emptied. And all the congregation said, Amen, and praised the LORD. And the people did according to this promise. (Nehemiah 5:1-13 ACP/KJV)

How serious is your covenant of salt with the Lord? In Second Chronicles chapter thirteen, verse five we read: Ought ye not to know that the LORD God of Israel gave the kingdom over Israel to David for ever, even to him and to his son by a covenant of salt? (2Chronicles 13:5 ACP/KJV)

Word study time: in your Bible it may, and in all probability does read sons not son, yet the word translated sons is, in the original ancient Hebrew ben, it is pronounced bane and it means: from 1129; a son (as a builder of the family name), in the widest sense (of literal and figurative relationship, including grandson, subject, nation, quality or condition, etc. So, the Son is Jesus and the son or sons are that or those Born Again Christian(s) that Jesus will put in charge of Israel in the thousand year period after the end of tribulation. God has kept His word, and if you keep your new year’s resolutions with Him, He will keep His to you that you have asked Him of, as long as you know and understand that it is His will that counts not yours and it is His will that will be done not yours, but, in doing His will, while it may not seem as such, you will be blessed.

So, be wary, for to make this pledge to God the Father in the name of God the Son, through God the Holy Spirit has its risk and dangers, as well as its rewards and blessings.

Cecily and I wish you all a very happy, safe, blessed and Christ filled 2008.

PS, Julie and Molly, I love you both and promise to write more often. Bob
