In light of last nights speech by President Bush

A look at Jonah 2,3&4
Wednesday, January 24, 2007

While some might call last nights childish display partisanship, I would call it a display of hatred and rudeness based upon ideal ology, or lack of it. The democrats with a few RINOs went, in my opinion, beyond civil objection to out and out rudeness. To put last nights, national and worldwide politics in perspective one might read the whole of Jonah. While I think that San Francisco, Sant Fe, and maybe even Maine's own sin city Portland might respond to the message of repentance as did Nineveh, I tend to doubt that Washington, DC would.

Before I go any further, could you take a minute or two and go back and read a previous thought. It was never proofed so you may find an error or two, three or four. Christianpatriot.com/starting_april_25th_2001.htm and scroll down to: Monday May 7th, 2001AD, 6314 AC "Let us pray for our missionary".

Now, while the President didn't say the things I would have liked him to say, he is the President of these United States, and he deserved better than he received from our elected public servants. A servant represents his or her master, the representation we got from our public servants last night was worthy of a scourging.

As we read from the Prophet Jonah, let us read Washington in where Nineveh appears. Let us see the king as President Bush and pay particular attention to the way the story ends. And let us think of ourselves as Jonah.

Then Jonah prayed unto the LORD his God out of the fish's belly, saying, I cried by reason of mine affliction unto the LORD, and He heard me; out of the belly of hell cried I, and Thou heardest my voice. For Thou hadst cast me into the deep, in the midst of the seas; and the floods compassed me about: all thy billows and thy waves passed over me.

Then I said, I am cast out of Thy sight; yet I will look again toward thy holy temple. The waters compassed me about, even to the soul: the depth closed me round about, the weeds were wrapped about my head. I went down to the bottoms of the mountains; the earth with her bars was about me for ever: yet hast thou brought up my life from corruption, O LORD my God.

When my soul fainted within me I remembered the LORD: and my prayer came in unto Thee, into Thine holy temple.

They that observe lying vanities forsake their own mercy. But I will sacrifice unto Thee with the voice of thanksgiving; I will pay that which I have vowed. Salvation is of the LORD.

And the LORD spake unto the fish, and it vomited out Jonah upon the dry land. And the word of the LORD came unto Jonah the second time, saying, Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the LORD. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey. And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, "Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown."

So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them. For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes. And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, "Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water: But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands. Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from His fierce anger, that we perish not?

And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that He had said that He would do unto them; and He did it not.

But it displeased Jonah exceedingly, and he was very angry. And he prayed unto the LORD, and said, I pray thee, O LORD, was not this my saying, when I was yet in my country? Therefore I fled before unto Tarshish: for I knew that Thou art a gracious God, and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repentest Thee of the evil.

Therefore now, O LORD, take, I beseech Thee, my life from me; for it is better for me to die than to live. Then said the LORD, Doest thou well to be angry?

So Jonah went out of the city, and sat on the east side of the city, and there made him a booth, and sat under it in the shadow, till he might see what would become of the city. And the LORD God prepared a gourd, and made it to come up over Jonah, that it might be a shadow over his head, to deliver him from his grief. So Jonah was exceeding glad of the gourd. But God prepared a worm when the morning rose the next day, and it smote the gourd that it withered.

And it came to pass, when the sun did arise, that God prepared a vehement east wind; and the sun beat upon the head of Jonah, that he fainted, and wished in himself to die, and said, It is better for me to die than to live. And God said to Jonah, Doest thou well to be angry for the gourd? And Jonah said, I do well to be angry, even unto death.

Then said the LORD, Thou hast had pity on the gourd, for the which thou hast not laboured, neither madest it grow; which came up in a night, and perished in a night: And should not I spare Nineveh, that great city, wherein are more than sixscore thousand persons that cannot discern between their right hand and their left hand; and also much cattle?

How many of us are putting the politics of the land, the gourd, ahead of the salvation of the people of the land? Now, trust me, I am not asking you to go to Washington and preach, for heaven knows I can't even get most of you to put a Christian bumper sticker on the back of your car.

No, I'm not suggesting you go to Washington, all I am suggesting is that perhaps it would be good to pray for this nation we call America. And to pay close attention to how the book of Jonah ends.

If you have been as lax in your praying for the President as I have, it is no wonder that he looks so tired and has taken such a beating, but worse yet is what has happened to our country. We are on the verge of losing our Republic my brothers and sisters, we are on the verge of losing our Republic.

Lord forgive me for not having prayed for this nation and our President as I should have. For Lord, while I find lots to disagree with President Bush over, he has been solidly behind the baby in the womb. So Lord, while I, like many others can and do find much fault will all who hold high office, I do ask You to please forgive us our sins and help this President to do that which is right in Your sight. Help me also to obey You and do what is right in Your sight. Amen.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush, Sean and Michael have, they, Rush, Sean and Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
