Know ye not that they which run in a race run all, but one receiveth the prize? So run, that ye may obtain. And every man that striveth for the mastery is temperate in all things. Now they do it to obtain a corruptible crown; but we an incorruptible. I therefore so run, not as uncertainly; so fight I, not as one that beateth the air: But I keep under my body, and bring it into subjection: lest that by any means, when I have preached to others, I myself should be a castaway. I Corinthians 9:24-27 (KJV)
As we head into the weekend before Valentine's Day, husbands and future husbands need to look at love and marriage from a Biblical point of view. God wants us to win in love and marriage. That is why he has put so much about marriage and family into scripture. Whether we like it or not, we live in a world of temptations. When I drive to work in the morning I pass by adult bookstores, when I shop in stores there are magazines at the checkout counter that used to only be kept under the counter and in plain brown wrappers. Yes, I complain to the store management, I write letters to local government leaders about business licensing procedures and attend council meetings to voice my opposition, but satan is there wanting to dangle these temptations in front of us.
Look at the example given to us by Joseph when he is tempted by the wife of Potiphar. He flat told her that he could not and would not even consider her temptations.
And it came to pass after these things, that his master's wife cast her eyes upon Joseph; and she said, Lie with me. But he refused, and said unto his master's wife, Behold, my master wotteth not what is with me in the house, and he hath committed all that he hath to my hand; There is none greater in this house than I; neither hath he kept back any thing from me but thee, because thou art his wife: how then can I do this great wickedness, and sin against God? And it came to pass, as she spake to Joseph day by day, that he hearkened not unto her, to lie by her, or to be with her. Psalm 39:7-10 (KJV)
With all the temptations around us, we need to remember what we are told in Ephesians 5:25. Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it; (KJV) Do you love your wife that much? Future husbands are you ready to give that sacrifice for your wife. Look at what CHRIST did for us on that cross. Are you ready for that sacrifice? You better be. Again in Colossians 3:19 we are told: Husbands, love your wives, and be not bitter against them. (KJV). And here it is again in 1 Peter 3:7, Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge, giving honour unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. (KJV)
Each and every one of us must love our wife even though there are times we do not feel very loving. Remember your wife is a sinner, she will not always agree with you, she will sometimes disappoint you and at times she might even say or do things that hurt you. More than likely she will be like you and not live up to the expectations you or she have. You cannot act like those around you and leave the marriage. God holds each and every marriage as the permanent union between CHRIST and each of us as His church. We must remain faithful to her as we remain faithful to God who ordained the marriage.
We can do all things through CHRIST because He is the one who provides us with strength. Through CHRIST we can find the strength to love our wives even when we feel we are not loved by them in return. We cannot simply stand around and wait for our wives to change their attitudes before we love them unconditionally. We have to start the race with the strength of a God ordained marriage and we have to continue the race with that same God given strength.
We must also remember that our wives are not a carpet for us to wipe our feet on. We are to treat them with the love that CRIST gave to us. CHRIST does not love us because we simply fall into obiedence to Him. Certainly Christ's love for us is not dependent on our submission or obedience.
Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God. And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience; And patience, experience; and experience, hope: And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us. For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly. For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die. But God commendeth His love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by His blood, we shall be saved from wrath through Him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of His Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by His life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Romans 5:1-11 (KJV)
Is it any more right for us to base our love for our wife on their works than it would be for God to love us through our works? Are you making your wife earn your love?
Fail in your own spiritual strength and see what lies in store for you.
And why wilt thou, my son, be ravished with a strange woman, and embrace the bosom of a stranger? For the ways of man are before the eyes of the LORD, and he pondereth all his goings. His own iniquities shall take the wicked himself, and he shall be holden with the cords of his sins. He shall die without instruction; and in the greatness of his folly he shall go astray. Proverbs 5:20-23 (KJV)
Each and every day we have to ask God to place a hedge of protection around us and our house as He did for Job. Hast not thou made an hedge about him, and about his house, and about all that he hath on every side? thou hast blessed the work of his hands, and his substance is increased in the land. Job 1:10 (KJV).
We have to finish like Job did.
The Lord bless you all and may He heal Mel's eyes and Myra's ears. May He be with Colby as he has now arrived at Paris Island and strted boot camp, A Christian babe amongst many a wolf. Amen.

May the Lord understand the importance of Mac, Cecily, Steve, and Rev. Jim Marstaller to this ministry. Lord I need them both healthy and able to continue to hold up their ends. Lord this cancer of Mac's is starting to get in the way, this ministry needs him whole, just a thought Lord, is all it will take, just a thought on Your part.
There is a young man, a veteran who suffers from some kind of chemical weapon exposure, in a Veterans hospital in Colorado, he is young, and he is Saved, yet his wife just abandoned him. Please pray for him, Lord, help him and deal with her and those who hurt him, we ask this of the Father in Your name Lord Jesus, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with and bless you all, amen.
The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."
Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
