Yesterday we looked at the politics of today, today we are going to look at God's instructions for us to live by. In our study today, we are in Matthew chapter eighteen, in which we are going to find the Lord giving us some instructions, instructions to live by, that by obeying, we can make this earth a bit nicer. Not for all, but for those who are Saved.
Matthew Chapter Eighteen
1 At the same time came the disciples unto Jesus, saying, "Who is the greatest in the kingdom of heaven?" 2 And Jesus called a little child unto Him, and set him in the midst of them, 3 And said, Verily I say unto you, Except ye be converted, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven. Converted simply means being born again. So, as the Lord tells us here and than restates in John 3:3, He is here saying. "Verily I say unto you, Except ye be Born Again, and become as little children, ye shall not enter into the kingdom of heaven."
4 Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child, the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven. 5 And whoso shall receive one such little child in My name receiveth Me. Who so ever humbles himself, have you ever given the word humble any real thought? Try this, being humble is one of four key parts that makes up servanthood. Humility; stepping down off of your high horse. Submission; submit to the ever command of your master Christ Jesus. Thankfulness; your not being motivated by duty, but rather by love. And Faithfulness; is when you have the correct priorities in your life, you are trustworthy to those priorities and you persevere even in times of extreme trouble and persecution. So, when you are humble and receive one of God's children in His name, not trying to make a profit off of that person but in an honest effort to serve that person, you are receiving and serving the Lord Himself.
6 But whoso shall offend one of these little ones which believe in Me, it were (would be) better for him that a millstone were hanged about his neck, and that he were drowned in the depth of the sea. I would urge those of you who are in places of power to read those words carefully, for one day you will answer to God for the harm you have done His children. I can not help but think of a male police Lt. And female Judge in Biddeford, Maine. As they belittled me and all I said, as they scorned and joked about how they could put me in jail, I couldn't help think about how much they will one day regret their actions. I ask you all to pray God for their conversion so as to avoid the judgement that awaits them. They together did serious financial damage to my ministry and even worse interfered with my evangelizing an old and dear Jewish friend.
7 Woe unto the world because of offences! for it must needs be that offences come; but woe to that man (Judas Iscariot) by whom the offence cometh! 8 Wherefore if thy hand or thy foot offend thee, cut them off, and cast them from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life halt or maimed, rather than having two hands or two feet to be cast into everlasting fire. 9 And if thine eye offend thee, pluck it out, and cast it from thee: it is better for thee to enter into life with one eye, rather than having two eyes to be cast into hell fire. Many preachers will tell you that God does not mean that you should literally pluck out your eye or cut of a hand or foot. I will tell you that Jesus created, you, me and the languages, He was and is perfectly capable of saying exactly what He means and meaning exactly what He says. Before you do anything to harm Him or His, as Judas Iscariot did, it would be better for you, if your plan is to witness against the Lord, to cut out your tongue. If your plan is to attack Him in print, it would be better for you to cut off your hands than to do that. If you are planning on attacking the body of Christ, His Church, His Bride, it would be better for you to literally cripple yourself permanently than to carry out those plans. For one day you will stand before God and explain why you did what you did, and in that time you will realize that it would have been better for you to have been dead.
10 Take heed that ye despise not one of these little ones; for I say unto you, That in heaven their angels do always behold the face of My Father which is in heaven. When that police Lt. In Biddeford used his badge, his size, his strength and his position to intimidate me, when that Judge scorned me and what I said in her court, they thought no one was looking, but God tells us that my own personal angle was not only watching, he was telling God.
11 For the Son of man is come to save that which was lost. 12 How think ye? if a man have an hundred sheep, and one of them be gone astray, doth he not leave the ninety and nine, and goeth into the mountains, and seeketh that which is gone astray? 13 And if so be that he find it, verily I say unto you, he rejoiceth more of that sheep, than of the ninety and nine which went not astray. 14 Even so it is not the will of your Father which is in heaven, that one of these little ones should perish. The Lord is willing to help that Lt. And that judge, but, we need to pray for them, they indeed did me harm, but nothing worthy of what will happen to them unless they turn to the Lord and are converted.
15 Moreover if thy brother shall trespass against thee, go and tell him his fault between thee and him alone: if he shall hear thee, thou hast gained thy brother. 16 But if he will not hear thee, then take with thee one or two more, that in the mouth of two or three witnesses every word may be established. 17 And if he shall neglect to hear them, tell it unto the church: but if he neglect to hear the church, let him be unto thee as an heathen man and a publican. How often I see one who claims to be Saved turning against another who claims to be Saved. Usually over money or personal selfishness. Guys, one day the Lord will look at you and ask you what you did with the riches He put at your disposal, keep that in mind as you read the balance of this chapter.
18 Verily I say unto you, Whatsoever ye shall bind (save) on earth shall be bound (found) in heaven: and whatsoever ye shall loose (walk away from, damning) on earth shall be loosed (not allowed) in heaven. 19 Again I say unto you, That if two of you shall agree on earth as touching any thing that they shall ask, it shall be done for them of My Father which is in heaven. 20 For where two or three are gathered together in My name, there am I in the midst of them. Think back to the times I have written on the thoughts page or e-mailed you with these words; Join with me in prayer.
21 Then came Peter to Him, and said, "Lord, how oft shall my brother sin against me, and I forgive him? till seven times?" 22 Jesus saith unto him, I say not unto thee, until seven times: but, Until seventy times seven. 23 Therefore is the kingdom of heaven likened unto a certain king, which would take account of his servants. 24 And when he had begun to reckon, one was brought unto him, which owed him ten thousand talents. 25 But forasmuch as he had not to pay, his lord commanded him to be sold, and his wife, and children, and all that he had, and payment to be made. 26 The servant therefore fell down, and worshipped him, saying, 'lord, have patience with me, and I will pay thee all'. 27 Then the lord of that servant was moved with compassion, and loosed him, and forgave him the debt.
28 But the same servant went out, and found one of his fellowservants, which owed him an hundred pence: and he laid hands on him, and took him by the throat, saying, 'Pay me that thou owest.' 29 And his fellowservant fell down at his feet, and besought him, saying, 'Have patience with me, and I will pay thee all.' 30 And he would not: but went and cast him into prison, till he should pay the debt. 31 So when his fellowservants saw what was done, they were very sorry, and came and told unto their lord all that was done. 32 Then his lord, after that he had called him, said unto him, 'O thou wicked servant, I forgave thee all that debt, because thou desiredst me: 33 Shouldest not thou also have had compassion on thy fellowservant, even as I had pity on thee?' 34 And his lord was wroth, and delivered him to the tormentors, till he should pay all that was due unto him.
35 So likewise shall My heavenly Father do also unto you, if ye from your hearts forgive not every one his brother their trespasses. Go back and read the comment at the end of verse 17. I know a doctor who claims to be Saved. Yet he has aligned himself and his family with heathens against a Saved man, his Saved wife and his Saved daughter. A doctor who has been twice divorced, a doctor who has been sued for malpractice, a doctor that God has forgiven time and time again, but over money, he has aligned himself against a a Saved family, joining with heathens to attack the Saved man and his family. How I would urge that doctor to read Matthew eighteen.
Taking on the responsibilities of becoming a pastor means that you take on the cares and troubles of all those who come to you. A pastors life is one of hearing pain after pain after pain. A life of crying out to the Lord. Do your pastor a favor, send him a card, take him out for an ice cream, tell him something positive in your life, tell him how God has helped you, how his prayers have been important to you. Like Jesus, who was recorded as having wept in the Bile, but never recorded as having laughed, pastors spend a disproportionate time in tears as well.
The bank just called, I have won four tickets to a hockey game, do you see how God takes care of His? I needed those tickets or something, and here before I have even finished the thought, the phone rings and the bank gives me wonderful news of a free fun filled evening for my wife, myself and two others. Praise the Living God.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with and bless you all, may He hear your prayers, see your tears and heal your wounds. Amen.
Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush and Michael have, they, Rush, Michael and their audiences need the Lord.
Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
