Today we are going to look at Matthew chapter twenty one. Chapter twenty one is the beginning chapter of the greatest study on the fickleness of mankind. Today in 21 we will see the people greeting the Lord as King. It won't be many chapters before theses same people are yelling Crucify Him, Crucify Him.
Matthew Chapter Twenty-one
1 And when they drew nigh unto Jerusalem, and were come to Bethphage, unto the mount of Olives, then sent Jesus two disciples, 2 saying unto them; Go into the village over against you, and straightway ye shall find an ass tied, and a colt with her: loose them, and bring them unto Me. 3 And if any man say ought unto you, ye shall say, "The Lord hath need of them"; and straightway he will send them.
4 All this was done, that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, 5 TELL YE THE DAUGHTER OF SION, BEHOLD, THY KING COMETH UNTO THEE, MEEK, AND SITTING UPON AN ASS, AND A COLT THE FOAL OF AN ASS (Zechariah 9:9). To be the Christ, Jesus had to fulfill every last prophecy concerning His first coming, even one as minor as how He should arrive in Jerusalem.
6 And the disciples went, and did as Jesus commanded them, 7 and brought the ass, and the colt, and put on them their clothes, and they set Him (Jesus) thereon. 8 And a very great multitude spread their garments in the way; others cut down branches from the trees, and strawed them in the way. 9 And the multitudes that went before, and that followed, cried, saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David: Blessed is He that cometh in the name of the Lord; Hosanna in the highest." Today the fickle decedents of those fickle persons sing at the top of their lungs on Sunday morning at church "All Hail King Jesus, all hail His Majesty". And then go out and support adulterers, adulteresses, pornographers, and abortionist with their dollars, giving no thought to how and where they spend their money or what programs the support by viewing.
10 And when He was come into Jerusalem, all the city was moved, saying, "Who is this?" 11 And the multitude said, "This is Jesus the prophet of Nazareth of Galilee." 12 And Jesus went into the temple of God, and cast out all them that sold and bought in the temple, and overthrew the tables of the moneychangers, and the seats of them that sold doves. 13 And said unto them, It is written, MY HOUSE SHALL BE CALLED THE HOUSE OF PRAYER; BUT YE HAVE MADE IT A DEN OF THIEVES (Jeremiah 7:11). May I ask you a question? How many of your churches use the sanctuary to sell stuff? How many of your churches, after a concert or show of some kind use the sanctuary to sell tapes and CD's and books of the performer(s)? I was going to ask another question, I was going to ask why many of you use envelopes with either your name or a number on them for your Sunday morning donations? But I know the answer, I don't like the answer, but I know the answer.
14 And the blind and the lame came to Him in the temple; and He healed them. 15 And when the chief priests and scribes saw the wonderful things that He did, and the children crying in the temple, and saying, "Hosanna to the Son of David"; they were sore displeased. 16 And said unto Him, "Hearest Thou what these say?" And Jesus saith unto them, Yea; have ye never read, OUT OF THE MOUTH OF BABES AND SUCKLINGS THOU HAST PERFECTED PRAISE (Psalm 8:2)? It is easy for us today to be critical of the high priest and the scribes for their remarks, for after all, we have the luxury of both hindsight and the written Bible. But what if Jesus walked into your church this coming Sunday and healed the guy in row four with the bad heart, the man in row twelve with prostrate cancer, the lady in twenty two with breast cancer and the little girl in row fifteen with a devil. Would you know Him? Would your Pastor? How about your elders? What if He were to heal people that didn't even know they were sick?
17 And He left them, and went out of the city into Bethany; and He lodged there. 18 Now in the morning as He (Jesus) returned into the city, He hungered. 19 And when He saw a fig tree in the way, He came to it, and found nothing thereon, but leaves only, and said unto it, Let no fruit grow on thee henceforward for ever. And presently the fig tree withered away.
What do we learn from the fig tree? Do we not learn that when the Lord turns to you looking for results and you show Him none, we are in His eyes nothing but a non bearing fruit tree. Are you bearing fruit? Is your church bearing fruit? Just as bearing figs comes natural to a fig tree and bearing apples comes natural to an apple tree, bearing good fruits for the Lord should be natural for Christians.
20 And when the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, "How soon is the fig tree withered away!" 21 Jesus answered and said unto them, Verily I say unto you, If ye have faith, and doubt not, ye shall not only do this which is done to the fig tree, but also if ye shall say unto this mountain, Be thou removed, and be thou cast into the sea; it shall be done. 22 And all things, whatsoever ye shall ask in prayer, believing, ye shall receive. So how does one avoid being a barren withered fruit tree? Pray. Go to the Lord in prayer asking for His help and guidance in bearing good fruit for Him.
23 And when He was come into the temple, the chief priests and the elders of the people came unto Him as He was teaching, and said, "By what authority doest Thou these things? and who gave Thee this authority?" 24 And Jesus answered and said unto them, I also will ask you one thing, which if ye tell Me, I in like wise will tell you by what authority I do these things. 25 The baptism of John, whence was it? from heaven, or of men? And they reasoned with themselves, saying, If we shall say, From heaven; He will say unto us, Why did ye not then believe him? 26 But if we shall say, Of men; we fear the people; for all hold John as a prophet. 27 And they answered Jesus, and said, "We cannot tell". And He said unto them, Neither tell I you by what authority I do these things. From these verses comes the old saying "I will not dignify that (question, answer, statement or whatever) with an answer." How many of us seem to forget that Jesus knows our every thought, our every action, our every dream and word. Then we go to Him in prayer, hoping to keep the truth from Him. When Jesus looks upon one and says "I will not dignify that response with an answer", what He is really saying is: "Depart from me ye worker of iniquity." You can lie to me, to your pastor even to yourself, but you can not lie to God.
28 But what think ye? A certain man had two sons; and he came to the first, and said, "Son, go work to day in my vineyard." 29 He answered and said, "I will not": but afterward he repented, and went. 30 And he came to the second, and said likewise. And he answered and said, "I go, sir": and went not. 31 Whether of them twain did the will of his father? They say unto him, "The first". Jesus saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That the publicans and the harlots go into the kingdom of God before you. 32 For John came unto you in the way of righteousness, and ye believed him not: but the publicans and the harlots believed him: and ye, when ye had seen it, repented not afterward, that ye might believe him. And you and I have the written word of God, the Holy Bible, yet how many skip over the Bible and go straight to commentary, to movies and videos? How many of you have to relay on Mel Gibsons movie Passion to understand what God went through for you and me? Yet, here in the Bible we have what really happened and a vivid description written by God's chosen men who took dictation directly from God.
33 Hear another parable: There was a certain householder, which planted a vineyard, and hedged it round about, and digged a winepress in it, and built a tower, and let it out to husbandmen, and went into a far country: 34 And when the time of the fruit drew near, he sent his servants to the husbandmen, that they might receive the fruits of it. 35 And the husbandmen took his servants, and beat one, and killed another, and stoned another. 36 Again, he sent other servants more than the first: and they did unto them likewise. 37 But last of all he sent unto them his son, saying, They will reverence my son. 38 But when the husbandmen saw the son, they said among themselves, This is the heir; come, let us kill him, and let us seize on his inheritance. 39 And they caught him, and cast him out of the vineyard, and slew him. The householder is God Almighty. His servants are the prophets of old. The son is of course the Lord Jesus, the Christ. The husbandmen or vineyard keepers are the religious leaders and their congregations fo the day.
40 When the lord therefore of the vineyard cometh, what will he do unto those husbandmen? 41 They say unto Him, "he will miserably destroy those wicked men, and will let out his vineyard unto other husbandmen, which shall render him the fruits in their seasons." the lord referred to is the Lord Christ Jesus, and as we will see in Revelation chapter 20, He will utterly destroy them, not kill them but utterly destroy them.
42 Jesus saith unto them, Did ye never read in the scriptures, THE STONE WHICH THE BUILDERS REJECTED, THE SAME IS BECOME THE HEAD OF THE CORNER: THIS IS THE LORD'S DOING, AND IT IS MARVELLOUS IN OUR EYES (Psalm 118:22&23)? 43 Therefore say I unto you, The kingdom of God shall be taken from you, and given to a nation bringing forth the fruits thereof. 44 And whosoever shall fall on this stone shall be broken: but on whomsoever it shall fall, it will grind him to powder. The stone is the Lord, if you do not come to that stone and be broken through repentance and genuine giving of your life to Him, then He will crush you into dust and you will be cast into the lake of fire for all eternity with the devil and his angels.
45 And when the chief priests and Pharisees had heard His parables, they perceived that He spake of them. 46 But when they sought to lay hands on Him, they feared the multitude, because they took Him for a prophet. Like so many today, the religious leaders back then knew exactly who Jesus was. They just loved the things of this world more than they loved the Lord. And as a result, they like the vast majority today, will spend eternity in the lake of fire, the hell of damnation, the place reserved for the devil, his angels and those who serve him. And let me say this again, those who serve satan are all of those who are not true washed in the Blood of the Lord Jesus Christians. If you are not truly a Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christian, you are serving satan and not the Christ and you are going to spend eternity in the lake of fire! (Matthew 21:1-46 ACP/KJV)
We in the United States of America are on the verge of anarchy. We have over the last few years seen the rule of law erode into nothing more than fancy words. We saw a former president commit adultery, perjury and treason with total immunity. We have seen judges create laws from the bench, we have seen members of police departments on all levels from the feds on down to the local cop on the beat commit murder with no punishment and even be rewarded for committing such crimes. Now we are seeing laws passed that legalize discrimination, ye, even order discrimination against one group of people simply because they smoke cigarettes. We are seeing Rush Limbaugh persecuted by a two bit flunky attorney general in Florida and a large minority of people, homosexuals and lesbians run all over the law by having flunkies in the governments marry them, all with total immunity from persecution. The law is starting to mean nothing.
When a society starts to pass unfair laws, and then refuses to equally enforce those laws that are just, we are on the verge of revolution. When those in power pass laws discriminating against large portions of the population for no reason other than smoking, yet at the same time pass laws protecting those who spread horrendous sexually transmitted diseases, we move to a position of facing total anarchy.
Ladies and gentlemen, this nation and yes this world need revival. Not the shallow revival of a Benny Hin, but a true Christ centered, Christ lead revival. For without true Christ centered Christ lead revival, we as a nation are on the verge of collapse.
God please help us. Amen.
Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush and Michael have, they, Rush, Michael and their audiences need the Lord.
Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
