Quit you like men, be strong!

By: Steve Burzlaff Friday March 17th, 2006

This hymn by Ada R. Greenaway was published in 1916 and based on 1 Corinthians 16:13 (Quit You Like Men, Be Strong) needs to be taken to heart by men today more than ever. Read through it carefully.

Rise at the cry of battle,
Arm for the coming strife,
By night and day you must fight your way
Till you pass through death to life.
Ready to face the danger,
Ready to right the wrong,
There is many a foe on the way you go,
Quit you like men, be strong!

Fiery and fierce the conflict,
Daring and swift the foe;
His hosts are found on the battle ground,
Where they wait to lay you low;
Sharp are his darts and deadly,
Keen is the strife and long,
Then arm for the fight in the armor of light,
Quit you like men, be strong!

Strive till the strife is over,
Fight till the fight is won,
Though sore oppressed, seek not for rest,
Until the day is done;
After the well fought battle
Join in the victor's song,
Your trophies bring to Christ your King,
Quit you like men, be strong!

Now ask yourself, are you ready for the fight? Have you armed yourself for battle? Battle with whom you ask? With satan. The ever present satan who is lying in wait for the unwary man. Yes, there is many a foe on the path, but if you have opened your heart to Christ you then have the Mighty Warrior on your side. However, if you have not opened your heart and invited Christ to dwell therein, the battle is lost for you until you do.

Satan's darts are deadly and sharp. They are accurate and will penetrate your strife filled flesh. Donning the armor of God, Ephesians 6:11-23 (KJV). 11: Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil. 12: For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. 13: Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand. 14: Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness; 15: And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace; 16: Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked. 17: And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God: 18: Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; 19: And for me, that utterance may be given unto me, that I may open my mouth boldly, to make known the mystery of the gospel, 20: For which I am an ambassador in bonds: that therein I may speak boldly, as I ought to speak. 21: But that ye also may know my affairs, and how I do, Tychicus, a beloved brother and faithful minister in the Lord, shall make known to you all things: 22: Whom I have sent unto you for the same purpose, that ye might know our affairs, and that he might comfort your hearts. 23: Peace be to the brethren, and love with faith, from God the Father and the Lord Christ Jesus.

Only through the strength we receive through Christ are we strong enough to stand in the battle. Go back and read the hymn again and join in the victor's song and see how great the victory is for Christ our King.

I have a prayer request this week for Virginia Hundley. Virginia is a 87 year old widow who lives directly across the street from us. Our daughter Ruth has helped care for Virginia for the past three years. Starting with just getting mail and the newspaper. Virginia has had a series of strokes over the past month that have left her near death's door. Virginia is a saved washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christian and is ready to go be with Christ. Her family is near her and her brothers and sisters in Christ are visiting every day. I ask you to pray that others can see the witness she is making along with Ruth and the others who care for her in these final days.

Amen.

Special long term daily Prayer Request

God has blessed me with four mentor pastors, one of which is Rev. Don Demars. Don has a wonderful wife, Theresa, and ten of the greatest Christ loving kids in the world. Don's three oldest Dusty, Allie and Casey off to the mission field. KC is in Romania, Dusty is in India and Allie is in Panama this coming Thursday.

They are dong exactly what Jesus instructs all Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christians to do, they are complying with:
Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.

...
All power is given unto Me in heaven and in earth. Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world. Amen.

Please keep the three of them in your prayers and remember to pray for Don and Theresa too, imagine having three of your babies out in the world.

Thanks and the Lord bless you all ten fold,
Bob

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.
