Beat their swords into plowshares? Wednesday March 19th, 2003
As we approach the time when either Saddam, his family, his military and his government leave or die. We more and more we hear liberal preachers, politicians and just plain folk with no Biblical knowledge tell us that instead of war, we should be "beating our swords into plowshares".
They tell us that they are quoting the Word of God, when they will say things like: "The Good book says; 'they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more.'" While the Word of God, the Holy Bible does say "they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more." It first says: "Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears:"
But, as is so often the case, the liberal preachers, the politicians and those who just like to hear themselves speak will be taking the Bible completely out of context when the use these verses of Scripture to justify their support for Saddam Hussein and their dislike for the USA.
Let us start by reading and studying the only two places in the Bible where it says beat their swords into plowshares. Looking at them in context to see if we can arrive at the time the Lord God Creator of all things and Author of the Holy Bible is speaking about.
The word that Isaiah the son of Amoz saw concerning Judah and Jerusalem.
And it shall come to pass in the last days, that the mountain of the LORD'S house shall be established in the top of the mountains, and shall be exalted above the hills; and all nations shall flow unto it. And many people shall go and say, Come ye, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths: for out of Zion shall go forth the law, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem. And He shall judge among the nations, and shall rebuke many people: and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. (Isaiah 2:1-4)
Isaiah chapter two, verses one through four are clearly talking about the thousand years following the seven years of tribulation. A thousand years when the Lord Jesus, the Christ will rule over Israel Himself.
The only other place in the entire Bible where this phrase is used is in Micah.
But in the last days
it shall come to pass, that the mountain of the house of the LORD shall be established in the top of the mountains, and it shall be exalted above the hills; and people shall flow unto it. And many nations shall come, and say, Come, and let us go up to the mountain of the LORD, and to the house of the God of Jacob; and He will teach us of His ways, and we will walk in His paths: for the law shall go forth of Zion, and the word of the LORD from Jerusalem.
And He shall judge among many people, and rebuke strong nations afar off; and they shall beat their swords into plowshares, and their spears into pruninghooks: nation shall not lift up a sword against nation, neither shall they learn war any more. But they shall sit every man under his vine and under his fig tree; and none shall make them afraid: for the mouth of the LORD of hosts hath spoken it. (Micah 4:1-4)
Now, how can we know for absolute certain that the verses of Isaiah and Micah used above are not now but after the period known as Tribulation? Well, in the Book of Joel, God has dictated the following to His servant and prophet Joel. Now while those who claim to know more about God's book and what He meant than God Himself does, may argue the next statement, you with half a brain know it to be the God's honest truth. God never contradicts Himself, He never lies and He never changes the rules.
What God says stands throughout all eternity. And in the book of Joel, God very clearly tells us that at the end of the time called Tribulation, He will force the armies of the world to arm against Him and then He will destroy them. Below we will see where God, through His servant Joel says: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears!
If you go back to Joel 1:1&2, you'll see that it is God that Joel is quoting directly, it is not a vision, Joel is quoting God Almighty, he is repeating exactly what God told him to say.
The word of the LORD that came to Joel the son of Pethuel. Hear this, ye old men, and give ear, all ye inhabitants of the land. Hath this been in your days, or even in the days of your fathers? (Joel 1:1&2)
Proclaim ye this among the Gentiles;
Prepare war, wake up the mighty men, let all the men of war draw near; let them come up: Beat your plowshares into swords, and your pruninghooks into spears: let the weak say, I am strong.
Assemble yourselves, and come, all ye heathen, and gather yourselves together round about: thither cause thy mighty ones to come down, O LORD. Let the heathen be wakened, and come up to the valley of Jehoshaphat:
for there will I sit to judge all the heathen round about. Put ye in the sickle, for the harvest is ripe: come, get you down; for the press is full, the fats overflow; for their wickedness is great. Multitudes, multitudes in the valley of decision:
for the day of the LORD is near in the valley of decision. The sun and the moon shall be darkened, and the stars shall withdraw their shining.
The LORD also shall roar out of Zion, and utter His voice from Jerusalem; and the heavens and the earth shall shake: but the LORD will be the hope of His people, and the strength of the children of Israel. So shall ye know that I am the LORD your God dwelling in Zion, My holy mountain: then shall Jerusalem be holy, and there shall no strangers pass through her any more. (Joel 3:9-17)
Now, from what we read in Joel, we can see that before God says "beat your swords into plowshares", HE says "beat your plowshares in swords". And since the things, descriptive of the times, recorded in Joel are also described by the Lord Jesus in His revelation as recorded by the Apostle John, we know that what Joel is quoting from God describes the things that happen in the time called tribulation.
Therefore, those who tell you that God's word commands that you do not fight, that you lay down and expose your soft underbelly to the enemy, are nothing more than liars and as such the children of satan. For the Lord tells us that satan is the father of all liars.
For the Lord Jesus tells us this regarding those who twist His word for their won gain or profit:
Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. (John 8:44)
So, to our President and to our troops, I would say this:
"Take the shot, defend the nation from the evil that is saddam hussein. For to do less is to neglect your responsibilities and your duties, regardless of where you are in the chain of command, from CIC to Private E-1. Be honorable, do as you are ordered, but do nothing to dishonor yourself, the Military, the chain of command or the USA."
And may our Lord Christ Jesus be with and bless you, may He comfort your families and keep you safe, may He reach out and touch each of you, showing His truth through salvation by His Blood. Amen.
Lord God Creator of all things, we, the people of the USA, give Thee thanks for giving us the second chance we do not deserve. We thank Thee Lord for our brave troops who are at this very instant freeing and liberating people through out the kingdom of satan. Amen. And Lord we beseech Thee that Thou would send to our men a Paul, to preach Your word to them before they go to free those held captive by the forces of evil left by Saul. Touch the Presidents heart Lord, lead him in a direction to send evangelist to our troops, give him the strength Lord to serve You, to use his office, that You have entrusted him with, as Commander in Chief to authorize and send solid evangelical Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christian evangelist preachers to bring the Word of God to our troops, giving them both reason to fight and the Lord's plan of salvation.
Lord Jesus, it is in Thy Sacred and Holy Name I pray, Amen.
All Scripture is quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
God blessed America when she feared Him, now it appears, she may face His wrath.
