Are you man enough?
If you husbands will love your wife as Christ loves the Church, you won't need to raise your voice or hit her, for she will love you so much that she will revere you. God Himself has ordained it: Unto the woman He said, ... your desire shall be to your husband, and he shall rule over thee. (Genesis 3:16b ACP/KJV)

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.

Day 32 of 40,

The family

Colossians 4:1-6
Tuesday, April 10,2007

In the very first verse of Colossians 4, we read "Masters, give unto your servants that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Master in heaven."

Before we continue, let's take a look at two words there, Masters and Servants. Masters, in the original Greek is; kurios, it is pronounced koo'-ree-os. What it means is anyone in control, in authority, anyone who has supreme authority over anyone else. That's right, it means dads. Now let's take a gander at the word servant, in the original Greek, it is; doulos, and it is pronounced doo'-los. It means anyone under the control of another, one who is not only subservient to another, but relies upon that other for the necessities of life. Food, shelter, guidance, and when necessary a good spanking. Children kind of fit don't you think?

So, for our study today, we are going to substitute master and servant with dad and children. "Fathers, give unto your children that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Father in heaven."

Remember back a few days ago we studied Ephesians 5 and 6? We read: And, ye fathers, provoke not your children to wrath: but bring them up in the nurture and admonition of the Lord.

Let's try to keep both of these verses in mind as we go forth from this day forward as the chief minsters of our families, as not only the disciplinarian of our children, but their chief spiritual counselor as well, for it is a responsibility we know is ours from reading Proverbs.

First for those of you whose children are all Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christians:

Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak. (Colossians 4:2-4)

But for those of us who are not sure that all of our children are Saved, we must add on:

Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. (Colossians 4:5&6)

If I have learned anything over the past 10 months, it has been that when dealing with a child who you are either not sure is Saved or has backslid, one must watch every word and action. You must pray for him or her, you must demonstrate by your actions, speech, dress, and everything else your Christian walk. It is not easy, no, not by a long shot, but it is your child's salvation that is at stake here.

So before we go to [prayer, let us look at Colossians 4:1-6 in it's entirety.

Fathers, give unto your children that which is just and equal; knowing that ye also have a Father in heaven.

Continue in prayer, and watch in the same with thanksgiving; praying also for us, that God would open unto us a door of utterance, to speak the mystery of Christ, for which I am also in bonds: That I may make it manifest, as I ought to speak.

Walking in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Let your speech be alway with grace, seasoned with salt, that ye may know how ye ought to answer every man. (Colossians 4:2-4)

Let us pray the Lord will give us a heart that is obviously thankful as we pray for our family. Let us ask the Lord for an open door to share the Gospel with our unsaved or backslid family members. Let us further ask the Lord to give us the opportunity to share the Good News of salvation with friends and unsaved kin, while never forgetting to pray daily for our pastor(s) as well.

Lord Jesus, hear our prayer, please take it to the Father as a petition, for He will never say no to You. Lord keep our wives and children safely tucked under Your mighty right arm, forgiving their sins, and speaking directly to their hearts. Bring into our children's lives the very one You have chosen and created to be their helpmates, and Lord help us to raise our children as Your Bible describes, putting away the silliness of the world and it's advice.

Thank You Jesus, for it is in Your name we pray. Amen.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."
