The proud, the prideful, and those with pride

Wedneday April 20th, 2005
Do you know that I can not find even one instance in the Bible where God's word is approving of pride. The closest that God comes to being prideful in His book, is found in the Gospels of Luke, Matthew, and Mark, where God the Father speaks of God the Son:

And the Holy Ghost descended in a bodily shape like a dove upon Jesus, and a voice came from heaven, which said, Thou art My beloved Son; in Thee I am well pleased. (Luke 3:22 ACP/KJV)

And lo a voice from heaven, saying, This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (Matthew 3:17 ACP/KJV)

And there came a voice from heaven, saying, Thou art My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. (Mark 1"11 ACP/KJV)

And in Second Peter we find: For we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. For He received from God the Father honour and glory, when there came such a voice to him(John the Baptist) from The Excellent Glory(God the Father), This is My beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased. And this voice which came from heaven we heard, when we were with Him on the holy mount. (2 Peter 1:16,17,&18 ACP/KJV)

So, it doesn't take a Spurgeon, or a Moody, or a Jonathan Edwards to know that God is not real happy with the actions of pride, being proud or boasting. That even when He is talking about Himself, as God the Son, He does not say He is proud of Him, but is well pleased in Him. Before I make my point, I want to show you a few things God does say about pride, the proud and those who boast.

He(God) divideth the sea with His power, and by His understanding He smiteth through the proud. (Job 26:12 ACP/KJV) See that word "smiteth"? That word means cuts through, chops apart, cut asunder, destroys, etc.

Better it is to be of an humble spirit with the lowly, than to divide the spoil with the proud. (Proverbs 16:19 ACP/KJV) Think about what God is saying here: It is better to be a Saved, Born Again bum living under a bridge than it is to be an abortionist, a multi millionaire who makes his money through anything that does not give God 100% of the glory.

For the day of the LORD of hosts shall be upon every one that is proud and lofty, and upon every one that is lifted up; and he shall be brought low: (Isaiah 2:12 ACP/KJV)

And I will punish the world for their evil, and the wicked for their iniquity; and I will cause the arrogancy of the proud to cease, and will lay low the haughtiness of the terrible. (Isaiah 13:1 ACP/KJV)

Now, as we look at the words of God as transcribed by Isaiah, we can see that God is going t deal with those who are proud, not deal nicely with them, but deal with them in such a manner that will make them wish they had been humble.

Now I want to tell you a story or two about how the proud loose out. I have over the years told you all of a number of times where miracle have happened in peoples lives because they came and asked for prayers. There are any number of Good Christians out there with things they no longer need, yet they end up either throwing them away or selling them at yard sales because they don't know that there is a Christian family that needs them.

But He giveth more grace. Wherefore He saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. (James 4:6 ACP/KJV)

I would not even hazard a guess at how many families have seriously ill members or have serious emotional or spiritual problems in their families because when asked "How ya doin?" They always lie and say "Fine." Why do they lie and say "Fine."? Because of pride. They don't want others to know that they have spiritual, mental or physical problems in their families.

I would even be more hesitant to take a stab at guessing how many have money problems because they won't go to the Body of Christ, the Born Again Christian community, and ask for help. How many Christian families are suffering because they let pride stand in the way of going and asking for help. You know, that stupid pride isn't going to cost you your salvation, but, it is going to cost you a lot of comfort and it may very well turn members of your family away from being Saved.

I'm going to say something that if you are honest with yourself, you will agree with. There is not one of you out there that comes to ChristianPatriot.com that is not guilty of the sin of pride. Not one of you! That by they way includes me. Pride is hard thing to put away, satan has made it very difficult for us to go to others and admit that we need help. But, putting away that pride is necessary for God to use His family, the Born Again Christian community, to help you.

There are any number of verses in God's word that tell us that if we will but ask, He will be faithful in supplying all of our needs. The one that should most stick out to us is this:

Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask Him. (Matthew 6:8 ACP/KJV)

does not God the Son tell us that God knows what things we have need of even before we ask Him? Does that not imply that, in most cases, God is not going to give us till we ask Him? Look further at what the half brother of jesus had to say to those who know of a need:

What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him? If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food, and one of you say unto them, "Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled"; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

Yea, a man may say, "Thou hast faith, and I have works": shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works. Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble. But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead? (James 2:14-20 ACP/KJV)

So Jesus tells us that God knows what we have need of before we even ask HIM, James tells us that Christians who know of the needs of a Christian in need who ahve the ability and the stuff necessary to help that Christian, must help him.

Jesus tell us that when we help a Christian in need, we are actually helping Him. But how is one ot know you are in need if you let pride get in the way of your asking for help.

I know of a very, financially successful, Christian. He and his wife have a beautiful home, they have nice cars, they live in a beautiful suburb, yet their family life is miserable. Why? Because they have let their pride get in the way of asking for prayer fo reconciliation between them and all of their kids, both are divorced and remarried, both have children by previous marriages, both have real problems with those kids. Yet, they let their pride prevent them from asking the Body of Christ for help.

The saddest thing is that there pride is causing at least one of the daughters to be, or at least have the appearance of being, a tramp. I see that daughter occasionally, just as I see family of these two occasionally and they tell of the troubles, yet, even though I and other Pastors know them and see them often and ask, "Is there anything I can pray for ? Do you need anything? How are you guys doing?", they never ask for help, they enver ask for prayer, they never ask for intervention with the kids. God calls it pride, I call it stupidity. Both God and I are right, for their pride is oh so stupid, but how can I ask you all to pray for them by name if they won't ask me to aks you for prayer?

Yet, how few of you ever e-mail me or use the form to ask for specific help. On Wednesday nights, our little church has between 10 and 20 people show up for prayer meetings, yet out of those 20 comes dozens of prayer needs. Do you have any idea of how many of you are reading this thought? Do you have any idea of ho many people come to ChristianPatriot.com on a daily basis? Let me just say this, if we had as many prayer request per attendee as our little church does on We4dnesday nights, we would have 40,000 plus prayer request per day.

Why don't we? Can it be that those who attend ACP don't have needs? That they have perfect happy families and all the food they need, that they have no sickness, illness or morale problems? No, it is not that, it is pride. Pride.

I'm going to close with one mor bit of wisdom as relayed to us by James, the half brother of the Lord Jesus, From whence come wars and fightings among you? come they not hence, even of your lusts that war in your members? Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. Ye ask, and receive not, because ye ask amiss, (James 4:1-3a ACP/KJV)

And I would add, or ye ask not at all. And 99 out of 100 times you aks not because of PRIDE!

Guys, put your families well being ahead of your pride. Put your Christ ahead of yourself. The Lord be with you all, in Jesus name i pray, amen.

Never ever forget this: There aint no purgatory!

The Lord bless you all and may He heal Mel's eyes and Myra's ears. May He be with Colby as he has now arrived at Paris Island and strted boot camp, A Christian babe amongst many a wolf. Amen.

May the Lord understand the importance of Mac, Cecily, Steve, and Rev. Jim Marstaller to this ministry. Lord I need them both healthy and able to continue to hold up their ends. Lord this cancer of Mac's is starting to get in the way, this ministry needs him whole, just a thought Lord, is all it will take, just a thought on Your part.

There is a young man, a veteran who suffers from some kind of chemical weapon exposure, in a Veterans hospital in Colorado, he is young, and he is Saved, yet his wife just abandoned him. Please pray for him, Lord, help him and deal with her and those who hurt him, we ask this of the Father in Your name Lord Jesus, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with and bless you all, amen.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush, Sean and Michael have, they, Rush, Sean and Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
