Pray right then and there, don't procrastinate.

Wednesday April 27th, 2005
To often we put off praying. We put it off till a more convenient time, a time more to our liking. You will remember that last Friday Pastor Steve wrote the thought, in that thought he asked for your prayers. He told you how he and his wife had been taking care of his in-laws for over ten years, and how they really needed a Christian woman to live in with the in-laws, who live within 300 yards of Steve and his family.

Last night Steve called to let me know that our prayers had been answered. They had a fine Christian woman apply within 48 hours of the thought, they hired her Monday. Praise God. As we were talking Steve told me that he was about to go into a dead cell area. Now, I may be a bit behind the times when it comes to technology, but even I know what a dead cell area is.

Just as Steve told me about the new care giver, I said "Praise God." But, I know I should have said, "Steve, let's take a minute to thank God." But, I didn't, I instead, thought, we'll pray at the end of the phone call. When Steve told me that he was about to go into a dead area, again I knew I should have said: "Steve, let's pray and give thanks to God." But, I didn't. I procrastinated, I was waiting for a more convenient time, and suddenly the phone went dead and we never prayed together, we didn't pray together giving thanks to God for hearing and answering our prayers.

I guess I really need to apologize to both my brother in the Lord, Steve and to my Lord and Master, Christ Jesus. For I did Steve a great in service by not praying with him and I even did more of a disservice to the Lord God Creator of all things, Christ Jesus, for ignoring His solving Steve's problem by answering our prayers.

Let's see if we can learn something from my stupidity. In the book entrusted to the half brother of our Lord and Saviour, the Holy Spirit dictates the following to James.

James Chapter Five

1 Go to now, ye rich men, weep and howl for your miseries that shall come upon you. 2 Your riches are corrupted, and your garments are motheaten. 3 Your gold and silver is cankered; and the rust of them shall be a witness against you, and shall eat your flesh as it were fire. Ye have heaped treasure together for the last days.

4 Behold, the hire of the laborers who have reaped down your fields, which is of you kept back by fraud, crieth: and the cries of them which have reaped are entered into the ears of the Lord of the Sabbath. 5 Ye have lived in pleasure on the earth, and been wanton; ye have nourished your hearts, as in a day of slaughter. 6 Ye have condemned and killed the *Just; and *He doth not resist you. * Just and He, in this case, are referring both to Christ Jesus and Born Again Christian martyrs.

7 Be patient therefore, brethren, unto the coming of the Lord. Behold, the husbandman waiteth for the precious fruit of the earth, and hath long patience for it, until he receive the early and latter rain. 8 Be ye also patient; establish(prepare) your hearts: for the coming of the Lord draweth nigh. 9 Grudge not one against another, brethren, lest ye be condemned: behold, the Judge(Jesus) standeth before the door.

10 Take, my brethren, the prophets, who have spoken in the name of the Lord, for an example of suffering affliction, and of patience. 11 Behold, we count them happy which endure. Ye have heard of the patience of Job, and have seen the end of the Lord; that the Lord is very pitiful, and of tender mercy. 12 But above all things, my brethren, swear not, neither by heaven, neither by the earth, neither by any other oath: but let your yea be yea; and your nay, nay; lest ye fall into condemnation.

13 Is any among you afflicted? let him pray. Is any merry? let him sing psalms. 14 Is any sick among you? let him call for the elders of the church; and let them pray over him, anointing him with oil in the name of the Lord: 15 And the prayer of faith shall save the sick, and the Lord shall raise him up; and if he have committed sins, they shall be forgiven him.

16 Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much. 17 Elias(Isaiah) was a man subject to like passions as we are, and he prayed earnestly that it might not rain: and it rained not on the earth by the space of three years and six months. 18 And he prayed again, and the heaven gave rain, and the earth brought forth her fruit.

19 Brethren, if any of you do err from the truth, and one convert him; 20 Let him know, that he which converteth the sinner from the error of his way shall save a soul from death, and shall hide a multitude of sins. (James 5:1-20 ACP/KJV)

I have bolded verses 13-16 because they are the verses most appropriate to my confession and what I should have done.

You might notice that nowhere does it say "when it is convenient" instead James 5 implies immediate praying. And that is what I should have done and what you should do. Don't put it off when a prayer need reaches you, pray right then and there.

I wonder how many evangelical opportunities are lost because we put off praying to a more convenient time. Let me give you and example.

Let us say a non Christian, say a liberal small c Christian comes up to you and tells you that his house just burned to the ground and they don't know where they are going to live. He then ask you if you will pray for him and his family. If you say, "OK, Let's pray." And start praying right then and there, you may get a response like this: "Wow, we don't pray like that in our church, you pray like you really know Jesus, like your talking to a member of your family, ..." If you wait till a more convenient time, the chances are that one, you will forget to pray and 2, that the person requesting the prayer won't be there and a chance to evangelize is lost.

So, from here on out, be two things, one, smarter than me and two, don't be like me, don't procrastinate or wait for a more convenient time, just pray right then and there when the need arises. Lord, I do hope You and Steve will forgive this ole dumb hick.

Never ever forget this: There aint no purgatory!

May the Lord understand the importance of Mac, Cecily, Steve, and Rev. Jim Marstaller to this ministry. Lord I need them both healthy and able to continue to hold up their ends. Lord this cancer of Mac's is starting to get in the way, this ministry needs him whole, just a thought Lord, is all it will take, just a thought on Your part.

There is a young man, a veteran who suffers from some kind of chemical weapon exposure, in a Veterans hospital in Colorado, he is young, and he is Saved, yet his wife just abandoned him. Please pray for him, Lord, help him and deal with her and those who hurt him, we ask this of the Father in Your name Lord Jesus, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with and bless you all, amen.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush, Sean and Michael have, they, Rush, Sean and Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
