There is a theory out there, it goes like this.
God created all things in six days and rested the seventh. He did this, by my reckoning, around 6,400 years ago.
The Apostle Peter said: “Knowing this first, that there shall come in the last days scoffers, walking after their own lusts, saying, ‘Where is the promise of His coming? for since the fathers fell asleep, all things continue as they were from the beginning of the creation.’
For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water. Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished. But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same (W)word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men. But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.
The Lord is not slack concerning His promise, as some men count slackness, but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance. But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.”
Wanting you to see the context, I have included all of Second Peter 3:2-10. But what I want you to focus on is “one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”. While some foolish ones use verse 8b as justification to claim that it took God eons, what ever they are, or at least 6 thousand years to create the earth. There are some who say that since Peter is talking about the end times, about the day when God will utterly and totally destroy all things on earth with fire, that the “one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day” means that at the end of about 6,000 years the millennium will be ushered in, therefore making this the last days, the very last days.
When you take the fact that it took God six days to create the universe and everything in them and on them, and that He rested on the seventh you have to wonder why He took six days and rested on the seventh. After all, He could have created everything in the blink of an eye, even faster, why six days. And why did Peter say “one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day”? My theory is that Peter said it to signify in the insignificance of time to God, but, those who say it is God’s way of telling us how much time is happening between the fall and the Second coming have a valid point as well.
In three days, on Thursday May 8th, Israel will celebrate the 60th anniversary of it’s reestablishment. As of this moment, there is not one serious Bible Scholar that can find anything left in Prophecy before the rapture of the church.
So the theory goes that since it was about 4,400 years to the birth of The Christ and it has been about 2,000 years since then and since we seem to be living in a time when everything that Peter prophesied as happening in verses 3,4,& 5 are now happening. And that everything Paul prophesied as happening in the end times in his second letter to Timothy is also happening in this very time, they say, and it hard to disagree with them, that we are in fact living in the very last days.
Let’s look at what Paul prophesied as happening in the last days:
“Timothy, this know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come. For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good. They will be traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God; having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away. For of this sort are they which creep into houses, and lead captive silly women laden with sins, led away with divers lusts. Ever learning, and never able to come to the knowledge of the truth. Now as Jannes and Jambres withstood Moses, so do these also resist the truth: men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith. But they shall proceed no further: for their folly shall be manifest unto all men, as theirs also was.”
So what does all this have to do with the question, “Do you mourn?” Look with me at Matthew 5:4 Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.
What if the end is near? What if the personal end is near for a friend of yours or a member of your family? By that, what I mean is, even if the rapture is not at hand, death is going to come to every man, woman and child on earth. Do you mourn for the unsaved? Do you go to the Lord and cry out to Him over how your heart is breaking because of this one or that one, this group or that group who are unsaved?
Well, watch this youtube video and you will. I urge you to show this video to as many as you can, I urge those of you who know how, to copy it and keep it on your computer in the case that it is taken down.
Lord God of creation, please intervene in my life to assure me that I will never receive a letter like that. Thank You Jesus. Amen.
