All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.

So, whom do we obey?

Acts 5:29b
Wednesday, May 9,2007

Last week the US House of Representatives passed HR-1592, this week the US Senate is poised to pass S-1105. Both are all about making it illegal to peach Biblical truth about homosexuality. And while the President does say he may veto it, the truth of the matter is President Bush does not have a great track record in standing up to the communist, anti-Christians, and US Military haters in the Congress. So I'm going to make the assumption that since there are currently 43 cosigners, including Maine's very own Olympia Snowe and Suan Collins, S-1105 will join HR-1592 in being passed by the Senate and signed into law by President Bush.

The Bible teaches that every society should have a law calling for the death penalty for the act of homosexuality. The very verse is found in Leviticus 20: If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination: they shall surely be put to death; their blood shall be upon them. (Leviticus 20:13)

Now there are many other places in the bible where God condemns the act of homosexuality, but nowhere is He clearer than not only condemning, but defining and prescribing the sentence for homosexual behaviour.

Now we face the question, what are we, as honest God fearing Christian preachers to do once this law goes into effect? Are we to respect the authority of the law and cease preaching that homosexuality is an abomination to God? Are we to cease preaching that the act of homosexuality should be punishable by death? or are we to ignore the law and continue to preach God's word the way God caused it to be written and not the way the US Congress wants us to preach it?

We have two parts of Scripture to take into consideration ehre. First we have Peter and John in Acts 5 verse 29, part b: "We ought to obey God rather than men."

And then we have Christ teaching us through the pen of Paul in Romans chapter 13:

Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God.

Whosoever therefore resisteth the power, resisteth the ordinance of God: and they that resist shall receive to themselves damnation. For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to the evil.

Wilt thou then not be afraid of the power? do that which is good, and thou shalt have praise of the same: For he is the minister of God to thee for good. But if thou do that which is evil, be afraid; for he beareth not the sword in vain: for he is the minister of God, a revenger to execute wrath upon him that doeth evil. Wherefore ye must needs be subject, not only for wrath, but also for conscience sake. (Romans 13:1-5)

The teaching in Romans 13:1-5 seems clear enough, we are to obey the government, but then again we have Peter and John saying: "We ought to obey God rather than men." Context, context, context.

Romans 13 goes on to say:

For, for this cause pay ye tribute also: for they (govt authorities) are God's ministers, attending continually upon this very thing. Render therefore to all their dues: tribute to whom tribute is due; custom to whom custom; fear to whom fear; honour to whom honour. (Read Matthew chapter 22 and Matthew 10:28-33)

Owe no man any thing, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law. For this, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not kill, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, Thou shalt not covet; and if there be any other commandment, it is briefly comprehended in this saying, namely, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.

Love worketh no ill to his neighbour: therefore love is the fulfilling of the law. And that, knowing the time, that now it is high time to awake out of sleep: for now is our salvation nearer than when we believed. The night is far spent, the day is at hand: let us therefore cast off the works of darkness, and let us put on the armour of light. Let us walk honestly, as in the day; not in rioting and drunkenness, not in chambering and wantonness, not in strife and envying. But put ye on the Lord Jesus Christ, and make not provision for the flesh, to fulfil the lusts thereof. (Romans 13:6-14)

Confused? don't be. Paul is telling us to obey the laws of man, to obey the rulers over us, the Congress, the president, the courts, but, not at the expense of God, not to the exclusion of God's word, God's rules, God's spoken laws. And that is exactly the point med by Peter and John in Acts five.

Acts Chapter Five

1 But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession (piece of land), 2 and kept back part of the price (proceeds from the sale of the land), his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3 But Peter said, "Ananias, why hath satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land?

4 Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? And after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? Why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? Thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God."

5 And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost (died): and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6 And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.

7 And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8 And Peter answered (said) unto her, "Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much?" And she said, "Yea, for so much." 9 Then Peter said unto her; "How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? Behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out." 10 Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11 And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.

12 And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. 13 And of the rest durst no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. 14 And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)

15 Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. 16 There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they (the sick and possessed) were healed every one.

17 Then the high priest rose up, and all they that were with him, (which is the sect of the Sadducees,) and were filled with indignation, 18 and laid their hands on the apostles, and put them in the common prison. 19 But the angel of the Lord by night opened the prison doors, and brought them forth, and said; 20 "Go, stand and speak in the temple to the people all the words of this life."

21 And when they heard that, they entered into the temple early in the morning, and taught. But the high priest came, and they that were with him, and called the council together, and all the senate of the children of Israel, and sent to the prison to have them brought. 22 But when the officers came, and found them not in the prison, they returned, and told, 23 Saying, "The prison truly found we shut with all safety, and the keepers standing without before the doors: but when we had opened, we found no man within."

24 Now when the high priest and the captain of the temple and the chief priests heard these things, they doubted of them whereunto this would grow. 25 Then came one and told them, saying, "Behold, the men whom ye put in prison are standing in the temple, and teaching the people." 26 Then went the captain with the officers, and brought them without violence: for they feared the people, lest they should have been stoned. 27 And when they had brought them, they set them before the council: and the high priest asked them, 28 saying. "Did not we straitly command you that ye should not teach in this name (Jesus)? and, behold, ye have filled Jerusalem with your doctrine, and intend to bring this Man's (Jesus')blood upon us."

29 Then Peter and the other apostles answered and said:

"We ought to obey God rather than men!

30 The God of our fathers raised up Jesus, whom ye slew and hanged on a tree. 31 Him hath God exalted with His right hand to be a Prince and a Saviour, for to give repentance to Israel, and forgiveness of sins. 32 And we are His witnesses of these things; and so is also the Holy Ghost, whom God hath given to them that obey Him."

33 When they heard that, they were cut to the heart, and took counsel to slay them.

34 Then stood there up one in the council, a Pharisee, named Gamaliel, a doctor of the law, had (held high) in reputation among all the people, and commanded to put the apostles forth a little space; 35 And said unto them, "Ye men of Israel, take heed to yourselves what ye intend to do as touching these men. 36 For before these days rose up Theudas, boasting himself to be somebody; to whom a number of men, about four hundred, joined themselves: who was slain; and all, as many as obeyed him, were scattered, and brought to nought. 37 After this man rose up Judas of Galilee in the days of the taxing, and drew away much people after him: he also perished; and all, even as many as obeyed him, were dispersed. 38 And now I say unto you, Refrain from these men, and let them alone: for if this counsel or this work be of men, it will come to nought: 39 But if it be of God, ye cannot overthrow it; lest haply ye be found even to fight against God."

40 And to him they agreed: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. 41 And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for His (Jesus') name. 42 And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ. (Acts 5:1-42)

So, you see, the Word of God and His word is very clear indeed. We are to obey the laws of the land, unless the laws of the land contradict the laws of God. A most definite law of God is to preach the truth of His word, the Holy Bible and if that means we are taken before courts and police, put in prison, whipped and locked up, well so be, for let us once again look at the end of chapter five: and when they had called the apostles, and beaten them, they commanded that they should not speak in the name of Jesus, and let them go. And they departed from the presence of the council, rejoicing that they were counted worthy to suffer shame for Jesus' name. And daily in the temple, and in every house, they ceased not to teach and preach Jesus Christ.

Can we today do any less? Can we today put our fear of Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins ahead of our love for Jesus? The united States government has drawn a line in the sand, we as Christians must not let that line deter us from preaching God's word and reaching out to the homosexual community with love, honesty, and the Gospel of Christ Jesus.

Never ever forget two very true truths. First if you deny Christ, He will deny you. And second we must never fear any more than we fear God. I don't know that I will ever even plant a seed in the heart of a homosexual, but I know this, I have never and I will never mislead a homosexual into believing that the act of homosexuality is anything less than an abomination to God.

My question to Senators Snowe and Collins and their 41 sodomite loving satan serving cohorts in the US Senate is; What is it about a man putting his penis in the anal channel or mouth of another man that you feel needs the full protection of the US Government?

For what distinguishes a homosexual from a heterosexual is one thing and one thing only, it is what sex that man has sex with. Sex between man and women is ordained by and approved of by God. Sex between two men, while approved by Senators Collins and Snowe, is condemned by God. While Snowe and Collins want to use the full force of the US Government to protect the act of one man putting his penis in another mans mouth and/or in his anal channel, God refers to it as an abomination.

Oh Lord Jesus, the silence is deafening Lord, will You not help us? Will You not at least bring to remembrance of Christians in the US that Your word does not exclude the US from persecution as we approach the end? Lord Jesus, how we could use a Peter, a John, or a Paul today. As I read of their ministries, of their courage, of their strength and determination, I feel so lacking. Please protect my grandchildren as the end draws nearer Lord. For it is in Your name Lord Jesus that I pray these things to the Father. Amen.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.
