All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
Over the last ten years, I have written over 17,000 pages concerning the word of God. Yet there are times when I am still confused, and expect to remain confused until the Lord decides to let me come home to Him.
Today we are going to look at part of my confusion.
Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father.
Furthermore whatsoever ye shall ask in My name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son. Therefore If ye shall ask any thing in My name, I will do it. (John 14:12-14)
I have included verses 13&14 for context, but it is verse 12 that causes my confusion. So, let us look at verse 12: "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father."
Now, in Acts three and five we see that being fulfilled by Peter and John, and further in Acts eight Philip and then Paul fulfills John 14:12. But, I see no limitation, as far as time is concerned, in John 14:12. Now before I get into my confusion, I want you to see what I mean by fulfilled.
Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour(3:PM). And a certain man lame from his mother's womb, who was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple; Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.
And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, "Look on us." And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.
Then Peter said, "Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk."
And Peter took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ankle bones received strength. And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God. (Acts 3:1-8) Peter through faith and in the name of Jesus was able to give this man the ability to walk, and God got the glory.
And by the hands of the apostles were many signs and wonders wrought among the people; (and they were all with one accord in Solomon's porch. And of the rest dared no man join himself to them: but the people magnified them. And believers were the more added to the Lord, multitudes both of men and women.)
Insomuch that they brought forth the sick into the streets, and laid them on beds and couches, that at the least the shadow of Peter passing by might overshadow some of them. There came also a multitude out of the cities round about unto Jerusalem, bringing sick folks, and them which were vexed with unclean spirits: and they were healed every one. (Acts 5:12-16) Notice here how even if only Peter's shadow touched, they were healed. And not just those in Jerusalem, and not only some, but from all around and everyone was healed and just as important if not more important, those who had demons were healed. The demons left them.
The miracles and healings recorded in Acts and elsewhere in the New Testament happened some 1880 to 1970 years ago. Yet, I can find no indication of a time limit in Jesus' statement "Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on Me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto My Father."
I know men and women who have physical and mental problems because of drug use when they were in their teens and beyond, and I feel badly for them and I do pray for them, but I am not upset at not being able to heal them with nothing more than my shadow overshadowing them. But, my heart goes out to and I cry over those little babies, who no fault of theirs, no action of theirs, are crippled physically and or mentally by the horrific drugs called vaccinations. These little ones, I really want to see healed, healed miraculously as the healings recorded above. For while they do not qualify to be put in the same category as the blind man in John chapter nine: And as Jesus passed by, He saw a man which was blind from his birth. And His disciples asked Him, saying, "Master, who did sin, this man, or his parents, that he was born blind?" Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. (John 9:1-3) It was not them that sinned, it was their parents.
There is another category of sufferers I would like to see helped, those who have a demon or demons living within them, those like Maine's US Senators Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins. For look at the damage they do as US Senators. Is it them? Or is it demons residing within them? I don't know, it could be drugs they took in their teens, or it could be that they are just plain evil, but then again it may be that they are demon possessed.
Back during the reign of President Clinton, had these two voted to deny Clinton's overriding of the veto on partial birth abortion, thousands of more babies would be alive. But even now, if they would withhold their support for legislation honoring the act of homosexuality, the chances of passage would be greatly reduced.
Oh How I pray the Lord will raise up a preacher or two that He could entrust the powers promised in John 14:12. Or perhaps rest my mind by showing me the passages that limit the gifts of John 14:12 to a certain time frame. I don't know how we would ever get Senators Snowe and Collins close enough to him or them to have their shadows over shadowing them, but I know we could get kids suffering from the ills of vaccines and canola close to them. Why we could even get some of those whose suffering is due to their own stupidity and drug use overshadowed.
Lord, peradventure there are but forty who would turn to You by the wonders and miracles performed by a few such preachers, will you forsake them? Please Jesus undo my confusion. Amen.
