In Joshua 24:15&21 there is a conversation between Joshua, and the people of Israel.
15: And if it seem evil unto you to serve the LORD, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the LORD.
21: And the people said unto Joshua, "Nay; but we will serve the LORD."
Well we, who read the Bible, now know that the people lied in verse 21, now comes the question, how about you? Are you lying when you say you will follow Jesus? Are you lying when you sing "I'll surrender all"?
When Joshua gave Israel the choice of serving God or god, he did so knowing full well that to chose God meant living a separate and holy life according to the law. When Jesus gave us the same challenge in Matthew 6:24, You can not serve two masters, ... you can not serve both God and the god of this world. He too went on and articulated what it would take to choose Him over satan.
Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before My Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny Me before men, him will I also deny before My Father which is in heaven.
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me.
He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it. (Matthew 10:32-39 ACP/KJV)
Yes, today we have the same choice to make that Joshua and the people of Israel had to make. We must make the choice between serving Jesus, the God of Light, Love, Life, and Creation and serving satan, the god of darkness, hate, death, and destruction.
Those choices are no easier today than they were during the time of Joshua, they are hard choices that we face every day. The choices start when you are but a child, some of the choices you make on your own, others are made by you and your parents, and still others are made for you by your parents. If your parents make the wrong choice for you or with you, the choices you make on your own become even more difficult. Let me give you an example of each.
If, when you were young, your parents made the choice not to have a televison in the house, your later choices dealing with clothing, language, etc are made much easier. But, if your parents made the choice to use the television as a baby sitter, forcing you to spend hours each day being 'entertained' by the daytime soup operas and the talking heads of the filthy morning shows, than your choice to dress right, speak without profanity and not indulge in promiscuous sex with animals, members of your own sex and everyone elese that ask you for more than a handshake, becomes much more difficult.
If your parents made the choice to put you and your brothers and sisters first, ahead of a summer home, a nicer house, steak instead of chicken, by choosing to home school you instead of putting you in the filth of the homosexual breeding recruiting grounds called the public school system, than your choices to do right, become much easier.
But, if your parents chose instead to serve material things, to have a second income, to have 'nicer' things, over you, and instead of home schooling you, put you into a school system that criticizes Christ while exalting homosexuality, diversity, mother nature, and encourages abortion, than your first thing should be to thank God that He did not allow your mother to bring you to an abortionist and have you offered up to her god as a little human blood sacrifice. But, your choices to try and serve Christ instead of satan are going to be oh so very difficult.
It is not just choosing to die for Christ physically "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it." that counts, it is all the little and big choices that you and I make throughout our lives that count as well. For it is those choices that will lead us to end our lives by either dying in and for Christ or dying in and for satan.
I'm going to conclude today's thought by giving you to cases to ponder I know both the boys and their families, both are accurate, in the case of Dusty I have used his real name, in the other I have made up both name and nickname.
There is a young boy, his parents did not love him enough to homeschool him or to play with him when he was a baby, let's call him Billy, his parents call him by his nickname, 'Demon', as do his friends. So Billy grew up watching the filth of katie curic and the morning Christ denying sex filled soup operas. He went to a public school in a little town in Maine, where he learned to respect homosexuals and hide things from his parents. He learned at an early age that God did not exist and that he and all his classmates, are the product of countless millions of years of evolution. That mankind has been evolving to this point ever since two monkeys first mated together. That there is nothing wrong with oral sex, because it really isn't sex.
Now since our young Billy is watching televison nights he of course knows of and has the newest of fashions, a tattoo or two along with the neatest body piercings and jewelry money can by, you see his mom has a really great job. He knows all the great language that televison can teach. The public school system has taught him that 'when you die, you die, life ends and there is nothing else.' He isn't to concerned with the truth for he has been taught that 'there are no rights and wrongs, that each person has to decide for themselves.'
On the other hand we have Dusty. Dusty has nine brothers and sisters, they have a televison in the house, but only use it to watch Christian videos and videos used for part of his home schooling. One such video teaches the scientific facts of how God created the world, and how the world is not all that old, and how there is solid proof of the fact of the Flood.
Dusty has to learn his lessons, for part of his responsibilities are to teach his younger brothers, along with keeping an eye on his sisters, keeping them safe. He starts and ends his day with prayer, giving thanks to God for all he and his family have, his Home Schooling includes Bible study.
Instead of the nightly trash tv, Dusty and his family go to church to hear the exciting news and reports by missionaries to the indian tribes of Mexico and others. Dusty respects his parents to much to every lie to them, he would not even consider marking up his body, or much worse cutting it. He traces his lineage back to God, so he loves God as only one can love a beloved grandparent.
Got the pictures? Got the profiles?
Which of the two boys, Dusty or Billy, do you think would do what Jesus commands in Matthew 10:39 "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it."?
Some 3,400 years ago, God said through the mouth and writings of His servant Joshua, "Make a choice today, God or satan." Some 1,400 years later God came to earth as the Christ, He said "Make a choice today, Me or satan." Now today, God is once again saying, just as He has all along, even since the very first heartbeat of man when God said to Adam and Eve, "Make a choice today, Me or satan." For that is exactly what God was saying when He said to Adam and Eve, "you can do anything you want, you can have any tree or anything in the garden, except that one tree in the middle of the garden."
And today, just as before Jesus is still saying to each of us, teo every man, woman and child: "Make a choice today, Me or satan.",,, "for you can not serve both."
You know, if you actually believed this: "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it." Making that choice between the Christ and satan would be a lot easier. If you really believed that if you die for Christ, you will be with Him throughout all eternity, it would be very easy for you to go cut off the world and let them cut off your head.
But, while most of you have shaken your heads up and down while reading this, the truth is, you really don't believe what Jesus said when He said: "He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it."
You have so little faith that you would prefer to have a man or woman, who have no respect for human life, cut you up rather than belong to a solid Christ fearing and preaching church and turn to God by abiding by what He has instructed you to do in James five. You would rather lie on a table in the operating room of a hospital and have a half witted Christ denying doctor cut you with a sharp knife than turn to Christ for healing.
Lord Jesus, I guess I'm starting to ramble, but Lord, I sure feel a lot like Elijah in First Kings Nineteen at times. Amen.

May the Lord understand the importance of Mac, Cecily, Steve, and Rev. Jim Marstaller to this ministry. Lord I need them both healthy and able to continue to hold up their ends. Lord this cancer of Mac's is starting to get in the way, this ministry needs him whole, just a thought Lord, is all it will take, just a thought on Your part.
There is a young man, a veteran who suffers from some kind of chemical weapon exposure, in a Veterans hospital in Colorado, he is young, and he is Saved, yet his wife just abandoned him. Please pray for him, Lord, help him and deal with her and those who hurt him, we ask this of the Father in Your name Lord Jesus, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with and bless you all, amen.
The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."
Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
