I used Matthew 6:34(a) (NIV) as the title for this thought for good reason. Today, May 13th is the day Secretary of Defense Rumsfeld is to present the Department of Defense recommendations for the 2005 round of the Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) to the BRAC committee. I happen to have worked in one form or another for the Army for the past 35+ years and am certain that in some way BRAC will have an effect on my life and the lives of those I love and those I work with every day.
There are some who have worried themselves sick, both physically and mentally, worrying about the impact to themselves by the decisions. Decisions they really have little or no power to influence. Should they be setting up nights fretting about the BRAC news today? What does God tell us about worry?
First, let's look at some of the most read scripture concerning worry. Matthew 6: 25-34 (KJV).
25-34 ACP/KJV Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment? Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they?
Which of you by taking thought can add one cubit unto his stature? And why take ye thought for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field, how they grow; they toil not, neither do they spin: And yet I say unto you, That even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.
Wherefore, if God so clothe the grass of the field, which to day is, and to morrow is cast into the oven, shall He not much more clothe you,? O ye of little faith, therefore take no thought, saying, 'What shall we eat?' or, 'What shall we drink?' or, 'Wherewithal shall we be clothed?'
(For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and His righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you. Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.
Worry can totally consume us. If left to run its course it will totally consume our thoughts, disrupting your life and will ultimately hamper our ability to trust in God.
Next is what God taught us through the meeting of Zarephath and Elijah. 1 Kings 17:7-16 (KJV)
7: And it came to pass after a while, that the brook dried up, because there had been no
rain in the land.
8: And the word of the LORD came unto him, saying,
9: Arise, get thee to Zarephath, which belongeth to Zidon, and dwell there: behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.
10: So he arose and went to Zarephath. And when he came to the gate of the city, behold, the widow woman was there gathering of sticks: and he called to her, and said, "Fetch me, I pray thee, a little water in a vessel, that I may drink."
11: And as she was going to fetch it, he called to her, and said, "Bring me, I pray thee, a morsel of bread in thine hand."
12: And she said, "As the LORD thy God liveth, I have not a cake, but an handful of meal in a barrel, and a little oil in a cruse: and, behold, I am gathering two sticks, that I may go in and dress it for me and my son, that we may eat it, and die."
13: And Elijah said unto her, "Fear not; go and do as thou hast said: but make me thereof a little cake first, and bring it unto me, and after make for thee and for thy son.
14: For thus saith the LORD God of Israel, The barrel of meal shall not waste, neither shall the cruse of oil fail, until the day that the LORD sendeth rain upon the earth."
15: And she went and did according to the saying of Elijah: and she, and he, and her house, did eat many days.
16: And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which He spake by Elijah.
How many have sufficient faith to look into your barrel of meal and see it is almost empty, but continue to use it day after day after day without worrying about it running out because the Lord said it would not? Do you live like this or do you go to the barrel of meal and see it is almost gone and then wring your hands in worry and wonder what you will do when the meal runs out? Read that last verse one more time: "And the barrel of meal wasted not, neither did the cruse of oil fail, according to the word of the LORD, which He spake by Elijah."
As we live day to day, we have regrets about what we did yesterday and fears about tomorrow burdening us. Our faith in CHRIST will relieve us of the worry of tomorrow. Phillipians 3:12-21 and 4:1- 9 (KJV).
12: Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if
that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.
13: Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,
14: I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.
15: Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.
16: Nevertheless, whereto we have already attained, let us walk by the same rule, let us mind the same thing.
17: Brethren, be followers together of me, and mark them which walk so as ye have us for an ensample.
18 &19: (For many walk, of whom I have told you often, and now tell you even weeping, that they are the enemies of the cross of Christ: Whose end is destruction, whose God is their belly, and whose glory is in their shame, who mind earthly things.)
20: For our conversation is in heaven; from whence also we look for the Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ:
21: Who shall change our vile body, that it may be fashioned like unto His glorious body, according to the working whereby He is able even to subdue all things unto Himself.
1: Therefore, my brethren dearly beloved and longed for, my joy and crown, so stand fast
in the Lord, my dearly beloved.
2: I beseech Euodias, and beseech Syntyche, that they be of the same mind in the Lord.
3: And I intreat thee also, true yokefellow, help those women which laboured with me in the gospel, with Clement also, and with other my fellowlabourers, whose names are in the book of life.
4: Rejoice in the Lord always: and again I say, Rejoice.
5: Let your moderation be known unto all men. The Lord is at hand.
6: Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.
7: And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.
8: Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.
9: Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.
Our goal should be like that of Paul, to be like CHRIST in all things. We must put aside all distractions and be like CHRIST. The last four verses really seemed to sum it up for me. We must take every concern, every worry, every little doubt to God in our prayers. I am praying for little or no impact from BRAC, as it could be a life changing event, however I must also remember that God's will, will be done. That we will find the peace that surpasses all of our mortal understanding in Him. Doing all of these things which you have seen and heard and received from Him and the peace of God will be in you forever. What more could we ask for?
I ask each and every one of you to pray every day for those in uniform who are fighting the war of terror.
Never ever forget this: There aint no purgatory!
Lord Jesus, please give women a love for their babies, from the moment of conception on, let them love them I pray Thee. Amen.

May the Lord understand the importance of Mac, Cecily, Steve, and Rev. Jim Marstaller to this ministry. Lord I need them both healthy and able to continue to hold up their ends. Lord this cancer of Mac's is starting to get in the way, this ministry needs him whole, just a thought Lord, is all it will take, just a thought on Your part.
There is a young man, a veteran who suffers from some kind of chemical weapon exposure, in a Veterans hospital in Colorado, he is young, and he is Saved, yet his wife just abandoned him. Please pray for him, Lord, help him and deal with her and those who hurt him, we ask this of the Father in Your name Lord Jesus, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with and bless you all, amen.
The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."
Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
