Luke Chapter Two
1 And it came to pass in those days, that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus, that all the world should be taxed (counted). 2 (And this taxing was first made when Cyrenius was governor of Syria.) 3 And all went to be taxed, every one into his own city. 4 And Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judaea, unto the city of David, which is called Bethlehem; (because he was of the house and lineage of David:) 5 To be taxed with Mary his espoused wife, being great with child. Kind of funny when you think about it, everyone finds the time to pay homage to the government by paying taxes, yet so many who profess to be Christians, can't find the time to serve the Lord, except maybe for 45 minutes or an hour on Sunday morning, but heaven forbid the preacher should go past that hour. Many of you can't even spare that little time. How anyone can do a week in the secular world without an hour or two of Christian fellowship, praise and worship with other believers, is beyond me.
6 And so it was, that, while they were there, the days were accomplished that she should be delivered. 7 And she brought forth her firstborn son, and wrapped Him in swaddling clothes, and laid Him in a manger; because there was no room for them in the inn.
8 And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. 9 And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. 10.11,&12 And the angel said unto them, "Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the Babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger." Do you know what the busiest time of a Shepherd's day is? It is night time, for that is when the wolves are out prowling, as are lions and thieves. If there is any time a shepherd can not be away from his flock, it is at night, for night time is peril time for the flock. Yet, these shepherds left their flocks, as you will see, and found time for the Lord.
13 And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, 14 "Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."
15 And it came to pass, as the angels were gone away from them into heaven, the shepherds said one to another, "Let us now go even unto Bethlehem, and see this thing which is come to pass, which the Lord hath made known unto us." 16 And they came with haste, and found Mary, and Joseph, and the Babe lying in a manger. 17 And when they had seen It (the Christ see Genesis 3:15), they made known abroad the saying which was told them concerning this Child. 18 And all they that heard it wondered at those things which were told them by the shepherds. Not only did they find the time to walk over and see the Lord, they found the time to worship Him and go preach about Him.
19 But Mary kept all these things, and pondered them in her heart. 20 And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all the things that they had heard and seen, as it was told unto them. Verses 19 and 20, verse 19, one of the saddest verses in the Bible, Mary ponders, and verse 20, one of the most glorious verses in the bible the Shepherds glorified and preached Christ. So many tell us that Mary is the 'queen of heaven', some religions even put Mary as equal to or even above the Lord God Himself. Yet, I have yet to find even one verse in the Bible where Mary confesses that her Son Jesus is God. The Roman Catholics pray to Mary to intervene for them with Her Son, yet, I'm not even sure that Mary is in heaven.
21 And when eight days were accomplished for the circumcising of the Child, His name was called JESUS, which was so named of the angel before He was conceived in the womb. 22 And when the days of her purification according to the law of Moses were accomplished, they brought Him to Jerusalem, to present Him to the Lord; 23 (As it is written in the law of the Lord, EVERY MALE THAT OPENETH THE WOMB SHALL BE CALLED HOLY TO THE LORD; (Numbers 8:17)) 24 And to offer a sacrifice according to that which is said in the law of the Lord, A pair of turtle doves, or two young pigeons.
25 And, behold, there was a man in Jerusalem, whose name was Simeon; and the same man was just and devout, waiting for the consolation of Israel: and the Holy Ghost was upon him. 26 And it was revealed unto him by the Holy Ghost, that he should not see death, before he had seen the Lord's Christ. 27 And he came by the Spirit into the temple: and when the parents brought in the child Jesus, to do for Him after the custom of the law, 28 Then took he Him up in his arms, and blessed God, and said, 29 "Lord, now lettest Thou thy servant depart in peace, according to Thy word: 30 For mine eyes have seen Thy Salvation, 31 Which Thou hast prepared before the face of all people; 32 A light to lighten the Gentiles, and the glory of Thy people Israel." 33 And Joseph and His mother marvelled at those things which were spoken of (about) Him. Mary and Joseph are still pondering, not confessing, just pondering.
34 And Simeon blessed them, and said unto Mary His mother, "Behold, this Child is set for the fall and rising again of many in Israel; and for a sign which shall be spoken against; 35 (Yea, a sword shall pierce through thy own soul also,) that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed."
36 And there was one Anna, a prophetess, the daughter of Phanuel, of the tribe of Aser: she was of a great age, and had lived with an husband seven years from her virginity; 37 And she was a widow of about fourscore and four years, which departed not from the temple, but served God with fastings and prayers night and day. 38 And she coming in that instant gave thanks likewise unto the Lord, and spake of Him (Jesus, the Messiah) to all them that looked for redemption in Jerusalem. Do you think that maybe Mary and Joseph heard Anna, as she took time from her schedule to come and see the Lord and preach Him, not to Him, but preach Him?
39 And when they had performed all things according to the law of the Lord, they returned into Galilee, to their own city Nazareth. 40 And the Child (Jesus) grew, and waxed strong in spirit, filled with wisdom: and the grace of God was upon Him.
41 Now His parents went to Jerusalem every year at the feast of the passover. 42 And when He was twelve years old, they went up to Jerusalem after the custom of the feast. 43 And when they had fulfilled the days, as they returned, the child Jesus tarried behind in Jerusalem; and Joseph and His mother knew not of it. 44 But they, supposing Him to have been in the company (the party that traveled with them), went a day's journey; and they sought Him among their kinsfolk and acquaintance.
45 And when they found Him not, they turned back again to Jerusalem, seeking Him. 46 And it came to pass, that after three days they found Him in the temple, sitting in the midst of the doctors, both hearing them, and asking them questions. 47 And all that heard Him were astonished at His understanding and answers.
48 And when they saw Him, they were amazed: and His mother said unto Him, "Son, why hast Thou thus dealt with us? behold, Thy father (step-father Joseph) and I have sought Thee sorrowing. 49 And Jesus said unto them, How is it that ye sought Me? knew ye not that I must be about My Father's (True Father, God) business?
50 And they understood not the saying which He spake unto them. 51 And He went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them: but His mother kept all these sayings in her heart. 52 And Jesus increased in wisdom and stature, and in favour with God and man. (Luke 2:1-51 ACP/KJV)
Now, moms get the kids, we have a little something to discuss. And dad, read verses 40 through verse 51. Now, I want to make a handful of points here. First, ask yourself this, how is it that Mary and Joseph were raising Jesus's brothers and sisters not knowing that Jesus was the Messiah? Is it any wonder that Jesus later in Luke chapter 8, When told that His mother, Mary and His half brothers and sisters were outside wanting to talk to Him, said "My mother and My brethren are these which hear the word of God, and do it." You know, the only two of the Lord's half brothers and sisters that we know came to be Saved are James and Jude.
So, if you don't preach Christ to your kids, how are they going to grow up serving Christ? Now kids, I see those smiles on your faces, you kind of like having me preach to your parents in front of you, don't you? Stop giggling, I know you do and you know what? I don't blame you, I would have giggled to if someone had done that to my mom and dad. But, now I want you to look at something. Dad, read verse 51 again.
Kids, did you hear what Jesus did? And Jesus went down with them, and came to Nazareth, and was subject unto them... Jesus, God Himself, went home with His step dad Joseph and His mother Mary, neither of which it would seem are Saved, and He was subject unto them. What does that mean? What does it mean for a child to be "subject unto mom and dad?
If Jesus could obey His step dad and mom, don't you think you should follow suit and obey your mom and dad? Chances are really good that if your dad is reading this to you, he is Saved.
Kids don't be like Mary, don't ponder. Jump off the fence, give your life to Christ and be a Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christian, your dad and mom can tell you just how to do it. And you know what? Nothing in the world would be a better gift for them and you and the Lord God Himself.
God be with and bless you all. Amen.
The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.
I would also like to thank the Lord that Dorothy has a large print Bible, while I am not to happy about the way she got it, I am pleased that she has it. And now my prayer is that she will read it and the Lord will let the Holy Spirit guide her to understanding it. Amen.
The Lord be with you all and please keep me in your prayers. I have some very important decision to make over the next few weeks or months, I need your prayers. Amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."
Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush and Michael have, they, Rush, Michael and their audiences need the Lord.
Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
