When you think about it, there is one thing that all who are truly Saved share, and that one thing is a hunger for God's Holy Word. Show me a guy who is truly Saved and I'll show you a guy who spends time in his Bible.
But how many of us actually try to memorize more than a verse or two? And, now that I mention it, should you even bother? After all, we here in the USA have the privilege of having as many Bibles as we want and for the most part have them on tape, CD and even on our computers. So why memorize more than a verse or two?
Well, in Amos chapter Eight, God gives us one really good reason:
Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it. (Amos 8:11&12 ACP/KJV)
One day there will be no Bibles evidently, or for one reason or another we won't be able to access one.
Then, as God said through the pen of His servant Peter:
and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear: (1 Peter 3:15b ACP/KJV)
Ok, so now we have a couple of really good reason why we should memorize the Bible, but when you think about it, if God really wanted us to memorize the Bible won't He have given us a way to do it? A painless easy way to do it?
Well, my dear brothers and sisters, guess what, He has!
4&5 Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart: And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. And thou shalt bind them for a sign upon thine hand, and they shall be as frontlets between thine eyes. And thou shalt write them upon the posts of thy house, and on thy gates. (Deuteronomy 6:4-9 ACP/KJV)
Through the pen of God's faithful servant Moses, God has told us exactly how to memorize Scripture. Not by sitting down and trying to memorize a chapter a day. But by taking small bites each day or week and printing them out and taking them to our door post so that we read and recite them each time we go in or out. By discussing them with our family when we get up in the morning, just before bed at night and even while we are just walking or sitting around chatting.
What say we start today with verses 4 and 5 of Deuteronomy chapter six: Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might.
Thank You Lord for Your book, help us Lord to realize that all our answers are in Your special book to us, the Holy Bible. And Lord help us to be diligent in learning and memorizing Your Holy Word, for it is that bread that we truly desire. Thank You Jesus for it is in Your name we pray Lord, Amen.
Sha'al shalowm Yruwshalaim.
Never ever forget this: There aint no purgatory!
The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."
Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
