Rev. Bob Celeste
Last Friday, Steve started his weekend thought like this:
"Webster's Dictionary describes the word MEMORIAL as "something that keeps remembrance alive".
Memorial Day was originally known as Decoration Day because it was a time set aside to honor the nation's Civil War dead by decorating their graves. It was first widely observed on May 30, 1868, to commemorate the sacrifices of Civil War soldiers, by proclamation of General John A. Logan of the Grand Army of the Republic, an organization of former sailors and soldiers. On May 5, 1868, Logan declared in General Order No. 11 that:
The 30th of May, 1868, is designated for the purpose of strewing with flowers, or otherwise decorating the graves of comrades who died in defense of their country during the late rebellion, and whose bodies now lie in almost every city, village, and hamlet churchyard in the land. In this observance no form of ceremony is prescribed, but posts and comrades will in their own way arrange such fitting services and testimonials of respect as circumstances may permit.
John 15:13 (KJV) Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends."
Today I would like to leave the arena of warrior and memorialize something else that has died in the USA, modesty.
What ever happened to modesty? How did it and when did it suddenly disappear? Not long ago, just back 45 years ago, modesty was all around us. Girls crossed their legs when they sat, they covered their legs and thighs, clothing covered the upper part of their bodies and only street walkers showed bare thigh and naked shoulder. While bathing suits were becoming more daring, the thong would have justifiably landed a girl in jail. Virginity was a prize that girls wanted to share with that special someone.
Then suddenly things changed. Today you can't tell the street walkers from the school girls, secretaries, office workers, and mothers. Today not only are legs not crossed, but dresses and shorts are so short as to keep literally nothing secret or sacred. And as for virginity, well it is no longer prized, but seems to be despised.
How did this happen? How and when did modesty disappear? I don't know, but I do know that the word of God, the very Bible tells us how to return to modesty.
But speak thou the things which become sound doctrine: That the aged men be sober, grave, temperate, sound in faith, in charity, in patience. Fathers and grandfathers, are you complementing the women in your life when they wear immodest clothing? Are you using your money to buy them clothing that shows too much? Are you making a big deal over men with lousy reputations? Are you hooting and hollering at the half naked cheer leaders? In other words, what kind of girl are you suggesting the women in your life be like to please you?
The aged women do likewise, that they be in behavior as becomes holiness, not false accusers, not given to much wine, teachers of good things; so that they may teach the young women to be sober, to love their husbands, to love their children, to be discreet, chaste, keepers at home, good, obedient to their own husbands, that the word of God be not blasphemed. Mothers and grandmothers, older aunts, sisters and cousins, how are you modeling for younger girls? How short are your dresses, how much flesh does your bathing suit show? What kind of language comes out of your mouth? Are you laughing about a girl who had an abortion? Do you gossip? Do you drink? Are you rude to your husband? Are you making him the butt of your jokes? Are you saying things like "don't let your father know?" Or "Just ignore your father, it will be ok." How modest are the clothes in your closet?
Young men likewise exhort to be sober minded. In all things shewing thyself a pattern of good works: in doctrine shewing uncorruptness, gravity, sincerity, sound speech, that cannot be condemned; that he that is of the contrary part may be ashamed, having no evil thing to say of you. This is probably one of the most important, if we are to return to an age of modesty. Young men, do you ogle pretty young immodestly dressed girls, ignoring the sweet, young modestly dressed virgins of your church group? Are you cat calling and whistling at those who dress immodestly? Are you working to protect your girlfriend's and sister's virginity and modestly or just the opposite? Boys, girls want you to like them. They will pretty near do whatever it takes to be liked by that boy they have their eye on. You have a lot to do with how the young girls and women in this country dress, behave and act. (Titus 2 1-8 ACP/KJV with notes)
I'm going to have more to say on this subject as time goes on. For I really do want to know just how and when this nation's young women lost the sense of modesty.
Lord, help us on this Memorial Day, to not just memorialize modesty, help us work to bring it back. By Thy grace and Thru Thy mighty power we can return virginity to a pedestal and modesty to our nation. Amen.
Sha'al shalowm Yruwshalaim.
Never ever forget this: There aint no purgatory!

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."
Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
