Wednesday July 22nd, 2009 How will you be remembered? Ecclesiastes 7:1-7 Keyword: Secession

One day you are born, then in the bat of an eyelash, you are gone. That time between birth and death is how you will be remembered. How will you be remembered? Will you be remembered by any other than your immediate family? Will you even be remembered by them? What have you done to be remembered by and as?

1 A good name is better than precious ointment; and the day of death than the day of one's birth. A good name is better than gold, silver, anything but salvation. And you are remembered at your death, not at your birth. At your death is when people focus on your life. Ever heard of Pillsbury flour? Sure you have, most use it. But did you know that while he was alive, for most of his live, he was hated. Did you know that in order to be remembered as more than a horrible man, he spent a fortune building libraries, schools, hospital wings and parks so as to have his name attached to those things instead of his deeds afer he died. There were there men who lived 225 years ago President Jefferson, Ambassador Ben Franklin, and preacher George Whitfield. After 200 years which of the three do you, as a Christian thinks most highly of? Which of the three has a name more valuable than the most precious of ointments?

2 It is better to go to the house of mourning, than to go to the house of feasting: for that is the end of all men; and the living will lay it to his heart. Ask a God fearing Christ loving preacher which he would rather do, a wedding or a funeral. We all enjoy weddings, but for the preacher whose life is saving souls, leading people to a saving knowledge of Christ, the funeral is the place to preach. At the feast all eyes are on the brides dress, at a funeral all attention is on death. Jesus said “Blessed are they that mourn: for they shall be comforted.” Not many come to Christ in a time of feast, but many come to Christ at a time of deep troubles. Not many are asking the preacher about Christ at the feast, but many want to know Him at a funeral. As this world wide depression get’s worse and worse, the rich will get richer, the poor, will bet poorer and many of the poor, God willing, will turn to Christ.

3 Sorrow is better than laughter: for by the sadness of the countenance the heart is made better.

4 The heart of the wise is in the house of mourning; but the heart of fools is in the house of mirth. I am convinced that many in Congress, if not all, stole millions, maybe billions out of the so called stimulus trillions. They are laughing and they are preparing to use that ill gotten money to buy up property and other things from the desperate poor. Think back to how the people of Egypt, during the time of Joseph, sold all they had for pennies on the dollar for food from the government warehouses. Many verses come to mind about these foolish thieving politicians, let us look at but one.

And Jesus said unto them, Take heed, and beware of covetousness: for a man's life consisteth not in the abundance of the things which he possesseth.

And then He spake a parable unto them, saying, The ground of a certain rich man brought forth plentifully: And he thought within himself, saying, ‘What shall I do, because I have no room where to bestow my fruits?’ And he said, ‘This will I do: I will pull down my barns, and build greater; and there will I bestow all my fruits and my goods. And I will say to my soul, Soul, thou hast much goods laid up for many years; take thine ease, eat, drink, and be merry’.

But God said unto him, Thou fool, this night thy soul shall be required of thee: then whose shall those things be, which thou hast provided? So is he that layeth up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Yes, Olympia Snowe and Susan Collins and the rest of the US Senate probably got a hundred million dollars or more promising to support and defend Obama, but whose will those things be the micro second they take their last breath? For God has said “And as it is appointed unto men once to die, but after this the judgment. So Christ was once offered to bear the sins of many; and unto them that look for him shall he appear the second time without sin unto salvation.” Are you using this world wide depression to stock your shelves or are you using this depression to reach out for Christ?

5 It is better to hear the rebuke of the wise, than for a man to hear the song of fools.

6 For as the sounds of finger nails scratching on a blackboard, so is the laughter of the fool: this also is vanity.

7 Surely oppression makes a wise man mad; and a bribe destroys the heart. Both the US House and the US Senate have now approved the so called hate crimes bill. This bill, had it been in effect when a homosexual named Matthew Sheppard had been mugged and killed, Jim Dobson would now be in the midst of his 23 year federal prison sentence. This federal bill and another that causes churches to hire the most eligible preacher by the standards of the world and not by he standards of the church, has got me so concerned that I am praying for one state or more to secede so that I and my wife will have some place to move where I will not be subject to going to prison for peaching what God said, concerning homosexual behavior. No, it has not driven me mad, but what will it do to the wife of the 30 year old preacher as she and the their children watch as he is hauled off to prison for 23 years for preaching the word of God?

In the time of Paul Nero burnt Rome, in the time of you and I, Obama is burning down the financial and social structure of the entire USA. He is burning what little is left of the moral compass of the USA. How many honest men, who are wise enough to understand what is happening, are going to go mad?

As men return for fighting for the freedom of those in Afghanistan, those in Iraq, how many, upon their arrival in the USA, will wonder why they fight for the freedom of others but are denied that freedom for themselves and theirs. For with each passing and successive war for freedom of others that US troops fight and return from, the Congress of the USA brings about more and more bureaucratic tyranny.

When my father entered to fight for the freedom of Europe and an end of the tyranny of Hitler, the laws concerning eminent domain would have prevented the taking of entire towns to build a reservoir for Boston. Yet after the war Congress made little changes that allowed that taking.

In 1962 when I left to start boot camp at Paris Island, the only guns I could not buy were fully automatic and sawed off shotguns. When I left the Corps three years later my right to buy handguns h been seriously eroded, till now, I find it, almost financially impossible to buy ammo because of draconian laws passed by the US Congress.

A young cousin went off to war in 1971, when he returned, I visited him in the hospital, he said to me “Bob I didn’t fight for the right for girls to kill their babies.”

And now we have Congress having passed a law, called the hate crimes bill that protects all forms of sexually deviant behavior including the act of man on boy sex. I wonder how many returning vets are saying to themselves “I didn’t fight to protect the right of some dirty old man to sodomize a twelve year old.”

Have you ever read the words preceding the signatures of the men who signed the Declaration of Independence? “... we mutually pledge to each other our Lives, our Fortunes, and our Sacred Honor.”
