By hearing they shall hear but not understand

Friday August 4th, 2006

We are going to continue looking at what Jesus said, and we are going to continue reading the Words of the Lord literally.

Today as we read Matthew chapter thirteen, do not read between the lines, just stop for a minute and ask the Holy Spirit for help. And then read what is written just the way it is written. Don't read between the lines, don't add definitions to words to water down their meaning, and don't expect to feel proud of yourself when you get done.

Matthew Chapter Thirteen

1 The same day Jesus went out of the house, and sat by the sea side. 2 And great multitudes were gathered together unto Him, so that He went into a ship, and sat; and the whole multitude stood on the shore. 3 And He spake many things unto them in parables, saying,

Behold, a sower went forth to sow; 4 And when he sowed, some seeds fell by the way side, and the fowls came and devoured them up: 5 Some fell upon stony places, where they had not much earth: and forthwith they sprung up, because they had no deepness of earth: 6 And when the sun was up, they were scorched; and because they had no root, they withered away. 7 And some fell among thorns; and the thorns sprung up, and choked them: 8 But other fell into good ground, and brought forth fruit, some an hundredfold, some sixtyfold, some thirtyfold.

9 Who hath ears to hear, let him hear.

10 And the disciples came, and said unto Him, "Why speakest Thou unto them in parables?" 11 Jesus answered and said unto them, Because it is given unto you to know the mysteries of the kingdom of heaven, but to them it is not given. 12 For whosoever hath, to him shall be given, and he shall have more abundance: but whosoever hath not, from him shall be taken away even that he hath.

13 Therefore speak I to them in parables: because they seeing see not; and hearing they hear not, neither do they understand. 14 And in them is fulfilled the prophecy of Isaiah, which saith, 'BY HEARING YE SHALL HEAR, AND SHALL NOT UNDERSTAND; AND SEEING YE SHALL SEE, AND SHALL NOT PERCEIVE: 15 FOR THIS PEOPLE'S HEART IS WAXED GROSS, AND THEIR EARS ARE DULL OF HEARING, AND THEIR EYES THEY HAVE CLOSED; LEST AT ANY TIME THEY SHOULD SEE WITH THEIR EYES, AND HEAR WITH THEIR EARS, AND SHOULD UNDERSTAND WITH THEIR HEART, AND SHOULD BE CONVERTED, AND I SHOULD HEAL THEM' (Isaiah 6:9&10). That description of people in Israel in 30AD is no less accurate a description of church folk in the USA today. We read, but we do not understand, we have spent so much time listening to and reading comentary that we don't read God's word the way He has caused it to be written, but instead the way we want to hear, read and understand it. Repent, be converted so that the Holy Spirit will help you understand and obey God's word.

16 But blessed are your eyes, for they see: and your ears, for they hear. 17 For verily I say unto you, That many prophets and righteous men have desired to see those things which ye see, and have not seen them; and to hear those things which ye hear, and have not heard them. Let me tell you a secret, many of those on earth between the time Jesus walked the earth and today and yes many today would give their very lives to have a full Bible to read literally. Yet so many of us spend more time listening to the lies called the nightly news, than we do studying the very words of the Creator.

18 Hear ye therefore the parable of the sower.

19 When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side. Those would be those who hear the Gospel or part of it and immediately turn their backs on it. they belong to satan, that is not to say that they won't later truly repent and be converted, but at that time they are satan's.

20 But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it; 21 Yet hath he not root in himself, but endureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the Word(Jesus), by and by he is offended. These would be those who come down to the alter at the end of the sermon while the music is playing and the preacher is saying, with every eye closed... these are quick hollow commitments done on the spur of the moment, there is no real and honest repenting and conversion. Just a flash in the pan, they show up for church maybe once, maybe twice, maybe for a whole year, but they are not Saved.

22 He also that received seed among the thorns is he that heareth the word; and the care of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, choke the word, and he becometh unfruitful. We have all seen these, they are on fire for the Lord for a while, but, when faced with the cares of this world, such as being offered a better job with more money if they will carry pornographic magazines in their store, cheating on their taxes, or perhaps faced with having to choose between a sale and telling a customer not to blaspheme the Lord in his or her store. They succumb to the temptation of money or other temptations of this world and leave the Lord. Or they succumb to fear or tribulations. They were never Saved. They never truly repented and were converted.

23 But he that received seed into the good ground is he that heareth the word, and understandeth it; which also beareth fruit, and bringeth forth, some an hundredfold, some sixty, some thirty. These are those who not only hear the words of God but are doers of the word as well. Those who read God's word and obey it. Those who do what God has told them to do by His Holy Word the Bible.

24 Another parable put He forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: 25 But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares(weeds) among the wheat, and went his way. 26 But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. 27 So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, 'Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares?'

28 He said unto them, 'An enemy hath done this'. The servants said unto him, 'Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up?' 29 But he said, 'Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. 30 Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.' Notice there is no third choice, there is the wheat, that would be the Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christians who hear and do God's word, and the tares, which would be all of the unsaved. There aint no purgatory.

31 Another parable put He forth unto them, saying, The kingdom of heaven is like to a grain of mustard seed, which a man took, and sowed in his field: 32 Which indeed is the least of all seeds: but when it is grown, it is the greatest among herbs, and becometh a tree, so that the birds of the air come and lodge in the branches thereof. Heaven is made up of men and women who while on earth were humble and served Christ, they went about their business of serving the Lord and doing His work giving all the glory to Him, keeping none for themselves, yet by this they were huge and through there efforts and Christian walk many turned from their sin, truly repented and were converted, therefore being sheltered in the Tree which is Christ. Are you mustard seed?

33 Another parable spake He unto them; The kingdom of heaven is like unto leaven, which a woman took, and hid in three measures of meal, till the whole was leavened. By men and women who are truly Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christians, the whole world has been and is being exposed to the Gospel of Christ. It is growing relentlessly, just as yeast grows relentlessly. But just as yeast needs a warm moist place to grow, so does the spread of God's word need warm, contrite, content, humble, repentant, converted hearts to grow in.

34 All these things spake Jesus unto the multitude in parables; and without a parable spake He not unto them: 35 That it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the prophet, saying, I WILL OPEN MY MOUTH IN PARABLES; I WILL UTTER THINGS WHICH HAVE BEEN KEPT SECRET FROM THE FOUNDATION OF THE WORLD (Psalm 78:2).

36 Then Jesus sent the multitude away, and went into the house: and His disciples came unto Him, saying, "Declare unto us the parable of the tares of the field."

37 He answered and said unto them, He that soweth the good seed is the Son of man (Jesus); 38 The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; 39 The enemy that sowed them is the devil; the harvest is the end of the world; and the reapers are the angels. 40 As therefore the tares are gathered and burned in the fire; so shall it be in the end of this world. 41 The Son of man shall send forth His angles, and they shall gather out of His kingdom all things that offend, and them which do iniquity; 42 And shall cast them into a furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 43 Then shall the righteous shine forth as the sun in the kingdom of their Father. Who hath ears to hear, let him hear. Jesus is going send His angles, they are going to take everyone who offends Him and them which do iniquity and cast them into the lake of fire, hell! Notice it is two groups, the group who offend Him and the group who do iniquity. Do you understand that what is meant here is that those who offend Him are those who profess to be saved, but have never truly come to Him in repentance an been converted. Those who have done in iniquity are all the unsaved. It doesn't matter that you say your saved, what matters is what Jesus reads in your heart.

44 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto treasure hid in a field; the which when a man hath found, he hideth, and for joy thereof goeth and selleth all that he hath, and buyeth that field.

45 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a merchant man, seeking goodly pearls: 46 Who, when he had found one pearl of great price, went and sold all that he had, and bought it.

47 Again, the kingdom of heaven is like unto a net, that was cast into the sea, and gathered of every kind: 48 Which, when it was full, they drew to shore, and sat down, and gathered the good into vessels, but cast the bad away.

49 So shall it be at the end of the world: the angels shall come forth, and sever the wicked from among the just, 50 And shall cast them into the furnace of fire: there shall be wailing and gnashing of teeth. 51 Jesus saith unto them, Have ye understood all these things? They say unto him, "Yea, Lord." Do you understand what Jesus has said above? Do you really? If not, do with it as you would if it were not the word of God, but instructions on how to reconnect your 240 volt stove. Keep reading it, studying and it and praying for guidance and understanding by the hand of the Holy Spirit. For it is a lot more dangerous to misread the Word of God and face an angry God than it is to make a mistake with 240 volts of electricity which can and will kill you dead if you treat it wrong.

52 Then said He unto them, Therefore every scribe which is instructed unto the kingdom of heaven is like unto a man that is an householder, which bringeth forth out of his treasure things new and old. Treasures new and old, the more you read and study the Word of God the more treasure the Holy Spirit will reveal to you. Those treasure may cause you temporary grief here on earth, but, that grief is only temporary. For life is but a flash in the pan, but what you do with it will determine not only where you'll spend eternity but how you will spend eternity. And while it is true that I have said many times, that it is better to be a horse fly in the stable of Jesus than it is to be the ceo of hell, the seats to the sides of Jesus may still be available. And to sit in one of them is much better than being a horse fly in heaven.

53 And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these parables, He departed thence. 54 And when He was come into His own country, He taught them in their synagogue, insomuch that they were astonished, and said, "Whence hath this man this wisdom, and these mighty works? 55 Is not this the carpenter's son? is not His mother called Mary? and His brethren, James, and Joses, and Simon, and Judas? 56 And His sisters, are they not all with us? Whence then hath this man all these things?" 57 And they were offended by Him. But Jesus said unto them, A prophet is not without honour, save in his own country, and in his own house. 58 And He did not many mighty works there because of their unbelief. (Matthew 13 ACP/KJV)

Yesterday we looked at a bit of revelation 21, in it we saw who was not going to get into heaven, let's go a bit further with that. The bottom line is this. You, I, nobody, get's into heaven by declaring themselves saved.

You get into heaven by first understanding that you are a sinner, in order to do that you must understand what sin is, it is not necessarily breaking the law of man here on earth, it is breaking God's laws. It is doing anything that offends God. How are you going to know God's law if you don't get your nose out of the sports page and into your Bible.

You get into heaven by repenting of your sins. This is not just saying you're sorry, it is turning 180 degrees from that sin. And then it is being converted. That again means in turning 180 degrees from your previous life of earthy selfishness to being an unselfish Christ server.

And the proof of your having done that is not going out and buying a $300,000 boat and bragging about how God has blessed you, but by taking that $300,000 and going out and feeding the poor, visiting and helping the widows and fatherless, visiting and helping the prisoners of the world, that would be not just those in prisons but all who are serving satan by being his prisoner to sin.

Do you even have a bumper sticker on your car declaring you on the side of Jesus? Let me close with this; Jesus said "Ye have heard that it was said by them of old time, Thou shalt not commit adultery: But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart." What do you think He thinks of girls who walk around enticing me to commit adultery in their hearts? What do you think He thinks when he sees young and old women coming into His house of worship with their bellies showing, their dresses and pants cut so short as to be a distraction, and their breast hanging out? Do you think for one moment that He is so dumb that he thinks those girls are there to give Him glory? To worship Him?

Let's get serious, God is no fool and for those who think He is, He get's to have the last laugh, for it is by Him and His rules that we are all judged. And understand this, first there aint no purgatory and second there is no appeal, His judgement and decision is final!

Lord Jesus, I thank You, I thank You for waking me up and I pray Lord that others will be woken up by the words and wake up call you have given me. Lord Jesus I pray your help in things that are troubling me and mine, that you will bless those who bless me and mine and deal with those who curse us. I pray Your protection and healing for Kellie, and conversion for Sharon, Stacy and Rachael. And Lord I know that Your will, will be done, but give me, not teach me, but give me the patience to wait for Your will to be done.

Thank You Lord,

Your little spoiled brother Bob.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush, Sean and Michael have, they, Rush, Sean and Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
