We had her dad at the local ER on Wednesday afternoon with shortness of breath and an erratic heartbeat. He will be 91 on October 26 and is continually amazing us with his recovery from life threatening situations. Yesterday was one of them. When we were taking him, I had to left him in to and out of the Suburban and place him in a wheel chair. As the ER staff were running the blood and urine tests and doing an EKG they were preparing us for the worst of news. After they were finished he was resting with a little bit of oxygen and an IV drip. He woke up before the doctor came back, sat up and started talking away. When the doctor came in I was just finishing explaining, in simple terms, how a digital camera works. While he was sleeping Janice and I had been praying for both him and for her mom. It goes without saying that he was sent home.
As we are there with them as death approaches we are so grateful for the time God is giving us to be with them. We have a wonderful lady staying with them, Robin, and two great part time ladies, Brenda and Helen. However the real joy is seeing our two youngest daughters who are still at home and being home schooled, take over so much of the care of their grandparents. Ruth is changing dressings on bedsores like a pro, and Charlotte is quickly learning the ropes that big sister already knows. What a blessing it is for Janice and I to see them grow and mature in this environment.
I could go on and on, and someday, elder care will be the subject of a whole series, leading ultimately to Janice and I writing a book about caring for the elderly. Pastor Bob got to meet my in-laws and Robin this past summer and I hope their brief meeting was the blessing that we get being with them the majority of the time.
This week I am going to look one of the more common terms Yahweh (YHWH):
This comes from a verb which means "to exist, be." This, plus its usage, shows that this name stresses God as the independent and self-existent God of revelation and redemption as found in Gen. 4:3 And in process of time it came to pass, that Cain brought of the fruit of the ground an offering unto the LORD. (KJV); and Ex. 6:3 And I appeared unto Abraham, unto Isaac, and unto Jacob, by the name of God Almighty, but by My name JEHOVAH was I not known to them (KJV).
Yahweh: Has been compounded into various titles which show us many other facts about God's character. All from the King James Version.
Yahweh Jireh (Yireh): "The Lord will provide." Stresses God''s providing for His people (Gen. 22:14).
Yahweh Elohim Israel: "The Lord, the God of Israel." Identifies Yahweh as the God of Israel in contrast to the false gods of the nations (Jud. 5:3.; Isa. 17:6).
Yahweh Nissi: "The Lord is my Banner." Shows us that God is the one who fights for His people (Ex. 17:15).
Yahweh Shammah: "The Lord is there." Shows the Lord''s personal presence in the millennial kingdom is there forever(Ezek. 48:35).
Yahweh Ro''i: "The Lord my Shepherd." Shows the Lord as the Shepherd who cares for His people as a shepherd cares for his flock of sheep (Ps. 23:1).
Yahweh Shalom: "The Lord is Peace." Points to the Lord as the means of our peace and rest (Jud. 6:24).
Yahweh Sabbaoth: "The Lord of Hosts." A military figure portraying the Lord as the commander of the armies of heaven (1 Sam. 1:3; 17:45).
Yahweh Maccaddeshcem: "The Lord your Sanctifier." Portrays the Lord as our means of sanctification or as the one who sets believers apart for His purposes (Ex. 31:13).
Yahweh Tsidkenu: "The Lord our Righteousness." Portrays the Lord as the way of our righteousness (Jer. 23:6).
In the coming weeks I would like to look at some more of the various names our wonderful Lord has.
I would like to ask for prayers for my family as we care for Janice's parents in their increasingly failing health.

May the Lord understand the importance of Mac, Cecily, Steve, and Rev. Jim Marstaller to this ministry. Lord I need them both healthy and able to continue to hold up their ends. Lord this cancer of Mac's is starting to get in the way, this ministry needs him whole, just a thought Lord, is all it will take, just a thought on Your part.
There is a young man, a veteran who suffers from some kind of chemical weapon exposure, in a Veterans hospital in Colorado, he is young, and he is Saved, yet his wife just abandoned him. Please pray for him, Lord, help him and deal with her and those who hurt him, we ask this of the Father in Your name Lord Jesus, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with and bless you all, amen.
The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.
The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."
Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
