A man, not the Man, but a man for sure

Monday October 10th, 2005
Well today is Columbus Day. Columbus was not a coward, no he was not a coward. He was an explorer, one who put his fears behind him. He was a man who did not let his crew see any fear or doubt upon his face. Columbus was a man, not the man we'll talk about today and certainly not The Man, but a man for sure.

Let's start with a few Questions and Answers.

Question: Who is The Man of the Bible?

Answer: Then came Jesus forth, wearing the crown of thorns, and the purple robe. And Pilate saith unto them, "Behold The Man!" (John 19:5 ACP/KJV)

Who is The Man of the Bible? It is, of course, God the Son and even those who are possessed by satan know it, as evidenced by Pilate's quote above.

But today's thought is not about Jesus, but one of His creations, the 'man.'

Question: Who was the first earthly son of God?

Answer: And God said, Let Us make man in Our image, after Our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in His own image, in the image of God created He him; ... And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof. {Adam: or, the man} (Genesis 1:26&27a and 2:19 ACP/KJV)

So God's first earthly son was Adam whose name in the Hebrew means, {the man}.

Question: God did not want Adam to be alone, so what did He do to fill the gap in Adam's life?

And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and He took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man. And Adam said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." (Genesis 2:21,22, and 23 ACP/KJV)

So God, wanting Adam to not be alone, made him a wife, a wife made out of Adam himself.

Question: God gave two commands to Adam. The first was "Adam, don't eat that tree in the midst of the garden, you, or any of your family." What was the second command?

Answer: Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. (Genesis 2:24 ACP/KJV)

Who was Adam's Father? God, God the Son, God the Father and God the Holy Ghost, God the Trinity. Adam's Father was and is GOD.

I don't know how long ago God created Adam and Eve, for it was before time began. There was no need to keep track of time in those days because there was no death. There was no old age, there was only paradise, perfection, life eternal with the God of Creation coming to visit each night. It was not the tree of life that Adam and his family were prohibited from eating, it was the tree of knowledge of good and evil.

Now I want you to look at these verses of God's word first and then I'll make my point.

And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat. ... And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.

Eve was deceived by satan. Adam was not deceived, but ate the fruit of the forbidden tree just the same. WHY? Why did he do it? And that is the subject of today's thought which I must tell you is not articulated in Scripture, but is my own speculation. It is not Gospel, it is simply what I think caused Adam to eat of that fruit even though he knew the consequences.

6,417 years ago, all was fine when the sun came up. Adam stretched, reached over and said to Eve, "Morning Hon, wanna cup of coffee?" Life was great, they had perfect bodies, no sin, no pain, no suffering. There was no death, the earth was perfect, the animals were all friends that came when Adam called, wagging their tails and begging for attention, a pat on the head, a stick to retrieve. The bees didn't sting, the mosquitos didn't bite and huge dragons came by to start the fire with flames out of their mouths, only too happy to be near and do Adams bidding.

Got the picture? Life was perfect and to make it even better, each night, just as the sun was getting ready to go down, Jesus came and chatted with His two favorite creations, Adam and his wife Eve. Imagine ending your day over a camp fire, with your wife cuddled up under your right arm, your golden retriever at your feet, and across from you is God, smiling and eagerly listening to you as you relay your day to Him.

And Adam knew when he bit into that fruit, that all this would end, yet he did it just the same. Why?

I believe that Adam bit into that fruit because he loved Eve. He loved her so much that he would leave Father to be with and protect his wife. I believe Adam gave up paradise because he knew that Eve was going to be evicted because she had already eaten of the forbidden fruit, and he knew she would never survive outside of Eden without him. He knew that without his strength Eve would curse God, just as Job's wife would have had Job do.

Just as you and I can not survive without Jesus, Adam knew that Eve could not survive without him. And just as Jesus so loves us that He gave up heaven to come to earth as a baby in the womb and grew up to be the perfect sacrifice for our sins, so did Adam voluntarily leave paradise to protect and make sure that his wife Eve would not further turn her back on God.

Many say the first prophecy in the Bible is in Genesis 3:15 when God, talking to lucifer, said: And I will put enmity between thee and the woman, and between thy seed and her seed; It (Jesus) shall bruise thy head, and thou shalt bruise His heel! I disagree, I believe the first prophecy is Adam, doing for his bride, Eve, what Christ would come and do for His bride, the Church.

Adam was a man, not The Man, but the man. I can guarantee you beyond a doubt that Adam never said to Eve after they were driven out of the Garden, "This is all your fault, look what you've brought upon us." No, he put his arm around her, lead and steered her out thru the gates, smiled down at her and said "It'll be alright Hon, Father is doing what He knows is best, He is punishing us because He loves us. We'll be ok, just wait and see. We'll get through this together."

Guys, Adam was a man. Adam did for his wife, Eve, what Jesus would later do for His Bride, the Church.

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the Saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, so that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish.

So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. 2 This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. (Ephesians 5:22-33 ACP/KJV)

Wives, if you want your husbands to do for you what Adam did for Eve and Jesus did for us, then you had best honor, obey, submit to, and reverence your husband. Guys, you want a good Christian wife? One that will honor, obey, submit to and reverence you? Than you had best do for her and your kids what Jesus did for the church and Adam did for Eve.

The Lord God of Creation, Christ Jesus be with you all, may He guide you, love you and be patient with you. Amen.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush, Sean and Michael have, they, Rush, Sean and Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
