Thank God for Steve,

Is "vessel" you or your wife?

Friday October 20th, 2006

Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us, how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even your sanctification, that ye should abstain from fornication:

That every one of you should know how to possess his vessel in sanctification and honour, not in the lust of concupiscence, even as the Gentiles which know not God: (1Thessalonians 4:1-5 ACP/KJV)

See that word vessel? The importance of the word is not readily apparent, but when you give the five verses serious thought after you know what the word vessel means in the original Greek, you start to see how, if done as Paul has stated, many a marital problem will disappear as will many of the adulterous thoughts and relationships now in play.

Vessel; skeuov skeuos, pronounced skyoo'-os: meaning a vessel, implement, equipment or apparatus (literally or figuratively (specially, a wife as contributing to the usefulness of the husband)):--goods, sail, stuff, vessel.

Now, not one of the above definitions, other than wife fits into the five verse statement made by Paul. Paul is talking about abstaining from fornication, that word fornication means sexual impurity, literally: harlotry (including adultery and incest); figuratively, idolatrous fornication.

So, let's go back and read verses 1-5 again with the words fornication and vessel replaced with all sexual impurity and wife. I am also going to replace the words sanctification and concupiscence with purity for sanctification and forbidden lusting and longing for concupiscence.

Furthermore then we beseech you, brethren, and exhort you by the Lord Jesus, that as ye have received of us, how ye ought to walk and to please God, so ye would abound more and more. For ye know what commandments we gave you by the Lord Jesus. For this is the will of God, even for your purity, that ye should abstain from all sexual impurity:

That every one of you should know how to possess his wife in purity and honor, not in forbidden lusting and longing, even as the Gentiles which know not God: (1Thessalonians 4:1-5 ACP/KJV)

First a little more Scripture and then I'm going to make my point. After you thoroughly understand it, then it is time to ask your wife to read it. If she excepts it, praise God for you have a wife who not only professes to follow God, as a Christian wife should, but does. For only a wife who understands, by reading Gods word and not listening and learning from Oprah and the soaps, will understand this thought.

If a man also lie with mankind, as he lieth with a woman, both of them have committed an abomination... (Leviticus 20:13a ACP/KJV) It is important for you to read that verse plainly as it is written. What God is saying here is that all forms or sex are correct when between husband and wife, but none of the sexual things that a man and another man can do is allowed between two men, they are restricted to husband and wife.

Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. (1 Corinthians 7:2 ACP/KJV) remember that word fornication means sexual impurity. Every man and every women should find so much pleasure in each other that they need not look else where. If that is not happening, then you must ask yourself why? What is going on in your sex lives that is causing one or the other to look outside the marriage bed?

Now, I am not taking the next verses out of context, for while Paul is taking about hair length, the point being made goes far beyond just hair length, read:

For the man is not of the woman; but the woman of the man. Neither was the man created for the woman; but the woman for the man.

Nevertheless neither is the man without the woman, neither the woman without the man, in the Lord. For as the woman is of the man, even so is the man also by the woman; but all things of God. (1 Corinthians 11:8&9,11&12 ACP/KJV)

Now for those wives who for one reason or another deny their husbands sex or use it as a gift, weapon, leverage or barter, understand what God has said through the pen of His Apostle Paul. Man was not made for the women, but women was made for the man. There is more to this, but today we are talking about wives withholding sex from their husbands.

Often times a women will refuse to do certain sexual things with her husband, the most common are those same things that one man can do with another man, the very ones God has prohibited men from doing with other men by saying they should only be done with a women in Leviticus 20:13 and also Leviticus 18. Most often this is became the wife has been influenced by one cult or another. In the Roman Catholic religion a women is taught that sex is only for procreation, a clear, open and flagrant abuse of Scripture.

Look at how God describes the marriage bed through the pen of His servant that wrote Hebrews: Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled: but whoremongers and adulterers God will judge. (Hebrews 13:4 ACP/KJV) Let's simply this, Marriage is the only acceptable sexual outlet, and nothing that a man and his wife do together in their bed is wrong, and God will judge all who do what only a husband and wife should do in bed. In other words, you and your wife can do nothing sexually wrong in bed, but only a lawfully married union of one legal aged naturally born male and one naturally born female of legal age can be construed as married. But further there is n indication that the marriage bed is restricted to procreation only.

In this day of promiscuous behaviour, or open, flagrant adultery, homosexuality and lesbianism, it is of great importance that husbands and wives do everything within their power to keep their marriage undefiled. If only wives and husbands could get it through their thick heads, that by withholding sexual gratification, you may very well be causing your mate to spend time and effort thinking of fornication instead of God. Perhaps even seeking fornication outside of the marriage.

How can a man concentrate on God and living a godly life if his wife has withheld sex from him for so long that all he can think about is ... And likewise, how can a wife be expected to spend time each day meditating the word of God if her husband has left her so satisfied that her mind is on nothing else?

On Oprah they say a women is exercising her right to control her own sex life, God's word calls it sin. Let me close with this from 1 Corinthians 7:2,3&4: 1Co 7:2

Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband. Let the husband render unto the wife due benevolence: and likewise also the wife unto the husband. The wife hath not power of her own body, but the husband: and likewise also the husband hath not power of his own body, but the wife.

Husbands and wives, think long and hard about refusing your spouse sexual gratification, for you may be driving him or her not only into anothers bed, but away from God as well.

Lord Jesus help us to understand that You were not just trying to kill a little time when you dictated Your book. Help us to understand that You wrote it for our edification, for our well-being, for our own good. Teaching us not only how to get along with You but each other as well. How much clearer could You have made it that You created Eve for Adam and not just to make his bed, clean his clothes and cook his supper. Thank You Jesus, thank You Lord for God fearing husband satisfying wives. Amen.

Sha'al shalowm Yruwshalaim.

Never ever forget this: There aint no purgatory!

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush, Sean and Michael have, they, Rush, Sean and Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
