By Rev. Jim Marstaller Pastor of The Cornerstone Gospel Church in Naples, Maine.
God has given us through Paul in Romans 12:9: "Let love be without hypocrisy; abhor what is evil, cling to what is good." We cannot love correctly (and deeply) without hating. One demands the presence of the other. I love fidelity in a marriage - I hate infidelity. I love life - I hate death. I love the arrival of a newborn - I hate the murder of the unborn. I love my family and thus will work to provide for, protect them, and present them to the Father as much like Christ as possible. I hate those who would do the opposite: steal from, harm, or teach false doctrine to my family.

"The word "tolerance" is used by postmodernist' to signify a refusal to pass negative judgments on another's beliefs or behavior. Properly understood, however, tolerance presupposes the passing of negative judgment -- an act of genuine tolerance can only occur downstream from a negative judgment that's already been passed."

J. P. Moreland

What our society, in the US, is calling for is a new day where the society is not even permitted to come to the place of tolerance. Tolerance demands that a judgment is made on an activity (action, choice, etc.), that activity deemed as wrong and then choosing not to make an issue of it. But "agreeing to disagree" is not the goal; it is a lowering of standards that is the goal. The desire of many is to bring our nation to that place where we do not see actions as black or white, right or wrong, good or bad, and holy or sinful. But rather bringing about a society where there are no absolutes. This actually creates a very superficial, shallow love one towards another or rather a sickening self-love.

The move toward 'tolerance' is actually a move toward intolerance. When a people come to agree on everything then tolerance is not needed. It is only when there are sharp disagreements, deep convictions with differences of opinion, a variant view of issues and the world, etc. that tolerance can be extended and exist.

I am eternally indebted that God did not 'tolerate sin.'

He did not:

(1) Agree with me in my pride (I'm fine, I can do it myself…);

(2) Tolerate my sin (by leaving me on my own);

(3) Compromise His holiness (by changing His standards); or

(4) Abandon me (with hell as my only eternal option) … but rather He loved me.

"For God so love the world that He gave His only begotten Son that whosoever believes in Him shall not perish but have everlasting life." John 3:16

If you and I are to truly love then we must also hate. If we are to be tolerant of anyone we must make judgments, identify some behavior as wrong and then extend love in action by speaking truth in love, rebuking a fellow man in a spirit of meekness and self-control, living life without hypocrisy by honest, loving, authentic word and deed.

God has been, is, and will always be intolerant of sin. The basis for the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus is God's holy wrath. "The wages of sin is death". It is His love that provided the perfect sacrifice, death, propitiation of the Savior on the cross.

May God bless you,

Pastor Jim Marstaller

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush, Sean and Michael have, they, Rush, Sean and Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
