Today's Christian thought: Monday October 27th, 2003
As a Christian, it is good to sit down occasionally and make a list. Not a list to share, just a list for you, a list that only you and God need know about. God already knows your list, but you may not. The list I'm talking about is the list of what is important in your life. A list starting with what is the most important thing in your life down to the things that means the least in your life.
This is not a short assignment, for the list you are going to want to make is not the true list. tTe true list is one you will have to truly search your heart to make. After you have made that list, you need to go to work on it, you need to work on it to make it look like this:
2. My wife.
And so on and so forth, but Jesus and your wife have got to be first and second respectively. And what you must do after you have made your true and honest list is start working immediately to make Jesus first and your wife second on your list by eliminating or toning down every other thing on your list that is ahead of or interrupting with Jesus being first and your wife being second.
Before we start today's Scripture, I want to remind you that the words in red are the words quoting the Lord Jesus, the words in purple are the words quoting God the Father.
Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before My Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny Me before men, him will I also deny before My Father which is in heaven.
Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household.
He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me. (Matthew 10:32-38)
Notice how the Lord says; "He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me" and "he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me." But He does not say, he that loves wife or husband more than Me is not worthy of me. Why? Why do you think the Lord doesn't include husbands and wives in that list of not worthy of me's?
And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him. And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and God took one of Adam's ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; and the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made He a woman, and brought her unto the man.
And Adam said, "This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man." Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.
And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed. (Genesis 1:20-25)
When God made husband and wife, He made them to be one, not two people, but one. This we see when the Lord was answering a question posed by the Pharisees.
The Pharisees also came unto Jesus, tempting Him, and saying unto Him, "Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?"
And Jesus answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that He which made them at the beginning made them male and female, And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh.?
Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder. (Matthew 19:3-6)
So, your wife is part of you, does that in itself answer the question: Why doesn't the Lord include husbands and wives in that list of unworthy of me's? Let's dig a little further.
Now stay with me here: remember what we are looking for is to find out why God did not include husband and wife in the list of those whom, if you love more than Jesus, you are unworthy of Him.
Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church:
and he is the saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.
Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; that He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies.
He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:
For we are members of His body, of His flesh, and of His bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh.
This is a great mystery: but I speak concerning Christ and the church. Nevertheless let every one of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband. (Ephesians 5:22-33)
Did you notice how Paul compares husband and wife to Christ and the church? If not go back and read Ephesians 5:22-33 again.
Now, let us finish with a quote from the last book in the Bible, the Revelation of Jesus to us, via the Apostle John.
And a voice came out of the throne, saying, "Praise our God, all ye His servants, and ye that fear Him, both small and great."
And I heard as it were the voice of a great multitude, and as the voice of many waters, and as the voice of mighty thunderings, saying, Alleluia: for the Lord God omnipotent reigneth. Let us be glad and rejoice, and give honour to Him: for the marriage of the Lamb is come, and His wife hath made herself ready.
And to her was granted that she should be arrayed in fine linen, clean and white: for the fine linen is the righteousness of saints. And he saith unto me, "Write, Blessed are they which are called unto the marriage supper of the Lamb." And He saith unto me, These are the true sayings of God. (Revelation 19:5-9)
The bride of Christ is the church, the church is we who are Born Again washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christians. And God has made us, part of Him as His bride, that is how high esteem God places on marriage and for those reasons, God never said: He who loves husband or wife more than me is not worthy of me.
So, men, when you finish your list, you then must make it look like this:
2. My wife!
3. My eyes, heart, legs, and any other body parts!
And so on and so forth.
Lord give them the hunger to search Your word and the wisdom to understand it. Amen.
Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush and Michael have, they, Rush, Michael and their audiences need the Lord.
The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.
The Lord be with and bless you all and may you all keep this very important point in mind. It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.
Lord I would also ask You to be with my friend Mac, and for the salvation of Michael Savage and Rush Limbaugh. Amen.
All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
