Once upon a time...

Keyword: forgive

Once upon a time, in what seems to be, a long, long time ago, with a people far different than Christians today, Christians said "God said it, I believe it, that settles it." That, sadly is no longer the way of Christians in the USA and the other 'civilized' countries of the west, the east, the north and the south today. Today, we seem to put all the forgiveness upon the shoulders of Christ, taking little or no responsibility for it ourselves.

Yet God Himself has said to us many things that we must take literally, for He has also told us that not all that say "Lord, Lord", will enter into the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus tells us in Matthew 6:14 "For (gar) if (ean) ye forgive (aphiemi) men (anthropos) their (autos) trespasses (paraptoma), your (humon) heavenly (ouranios) Father (pater) will also (kai) forgive (aphiemi) you (humin)." I have, for your personal study, included the Greek words, for if you take the time to look these words up, in Greek, you will find that a perfectly organized literal translation would be: "For, if ye may forgive men their trespasses He also will forgive you--your Father who is in the heavens."

Forgiving is not an option that Jesus gave us, it is a command, and I might add, one of the ahrdest, if not the most difficult of His commands to obey. But, to forgive ones trespasses against you does not mean granting a complete and absolute pardon as well. As a result it always easier to forgive one who is dead than it is to forgive an unrepentant trespasser who is still amongst the living.

How serious is this command to forgive? Well, Jesus included it in His lesson teaching His Apostles how to pray. He then, after the prayer, went on to expand on it. By saying: "For if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses." Matthew 6:14&15

Yet, we oft times ignore the teachings of the Lord and refuse to forgive, forgiving has been the single most difficult part of my life as Christian. I am not prone to forgiving, I am prone to retaliating, to getting back, to immediately losing my temper. But, in not forgiving, I put my eternal soul at jeopardy.

Yes, by refusing to follow the commands of the Lord we do in fact put our souls in jeopardy of eternal damnation. Do you think those who are not Jesus' friends will be allowed into His heaven? Do you not think that He created the lake of fire for his enemies and only invites His friends to be in heaven with Him? If that makes sense to you, than we must know how to be His friend, not His enemy, for how He defines His friends means those who do not fall into that category are not His friends and only His friends will be in heaven with Him.

9 As the Father hath loved Me, so have I loved you: continue ye in My love. 10 If ye keep My commandments, ye shall abide in My love; even as I have kept My Father's commandments, and abide in His love.

11 These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full. 12 This is My commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you. 13 Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends. 14 Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.

15 Henceforth I call you not servants; for the servant knoweth not what his Lord doeth: but I have called you friends; for all things that I have heard of My Father I have made known unto you. John 15:9-15

Notice again verse 14: Ye are My friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you. Now look back at Matthew 6:15 But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. Does that look to you like a command? It sure does to me and I thank God He has given me the time to learn, study and find the importance of His command to forgive.

He has, since you are reading this, also given you the time to ponder and accept the importance of forgiving. This is the first thought on Forgiveness, there will be, God willing, many more, for it is not an easy subject, it not one to be taken lightly or in few words.

As an aside, I am often asked why I don't pastor a church, a church with a building that is. I'm not sure if Jesus wants me to have a fixed church or not, but if He called me to pastor a church I would go, but I would want to know for certain that it is He calling me. Folks, the average Christian church, has about 55 people attend each Sunday. For the most part it is the same 55 each week. So the average Pastor preaches to about 55 people a week. Do you have any idea how many people read the thoughts each week?

From the pulpit most pastors are limited by time and subject, God forbid anyone should be offended. But here online, I do not have those constraints, On line I can deal with such sensitive subjects as abortion, virginity, and thoughts, that takes about an hour to read and when delivered as a sermon takes over an hour and a half, such as "Last days, Perilous times Timothy 3:1-7" to adequately deliver.

No, unless God really makes it clear that He wants me to take church, I would rather stay right where I am. For it is His will I must submit to not mine, not those who fear man or Government. Only the internet allows one to reach more people than even a Billy Graham crusade.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."
