Friday, November 27th, 2009 Well that’s a pretty good thing Deuteronomy 5:19, 20, and 18
Have you seen the brand new blockbuster Hollywood Christian movie “The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry”? For those who have, the following thought will remind you of the movie. For those of you who haven’t seen it, well, let’s hope this will pique your interest in going to see what will go down in history as the Christian movie that became the movie of the year.
Dustin, Mark and Alfred are talking to Mr. Sperry when the subject of the Bible comes up. The boys say that they hardly ever read their Bibles, don’t even know where they are. Then Albert says that the Bible is full of things telling you that you can’t do this and you can’t do that. The other two boys look on in agreement.
Then Mr. Sperry tells the boys that he never looks at it like that. He says to Mark, “The Bible says not to lie, do you want anyone lying to you Mark?” Mark of course says no, Mr. Sperry than says, “Well I guess that’s a pretty good thing, huh Mark?” and Mark agrees.
Mr. Sperry then turns to Albert and says “The Bible teaches us not to steal, do you want anyone stealing from you Albert?” Albert says no and again Mr. Sperry says, “Well, I guess that’s a good thing too” and Albert and the other two boys agree.
For those of you who come here, I would add another question. I would say to you that the Bible teaches that we are not to commit adultery. How many of you know people whose families have been ruined, marriages ended in divorce because of adultery? Well I guess when God said “Neither shalt thou commit adultery” it was not only a command, but it was and is a good command. Look around you at the horrors that broken marriages, lying, stealing and adultery have wrought.
The Secrets of Jonathan Sperry is full of Scriptural gems like the above. Absolutely loaded with opportunities for an evangelical Christian to get into a conversation about Jesus and the word of God. It is a movie that begs to be shown in churches and used to invite non Christians and liberal Christians in to see.
If your church has not shown the Secrets of Jonathan Sperry yet, then isn’t it time you ask your pastor to call or email me about setting a time when your church can see this movie for a free will offering?
Want to see how important it is to use God’s word when evangelizing? Want to see how important it is to return Christ and His word into your everyday speech? Want to see how important it is for you and every Christ loving Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christian to quote Christ, to give Christ credit for the good things of this life? Then there is another movie you church should view, again for a free will offering. That movie is “Time Changer”.
Over the years I have begged you to get off your backsides and get out there and evangelize, and over the years I have come to feel much like a man yelling into a canyon in hopes of hearing his echo. For fifteen years I have been looking for an evangelical tool that there is no reason any Christian or Church could not use without having to really do much more than put up a few posters and ask close friends to come see a movie. God has heard that prayer and has given Rich Christiano of Five and Two productions the will, the desire and the ability to make such films. Then Christ brought Rich, a Hollywood Producer/Director/Writer of Christian movies into the lives of two back water Christian pastors in Maine. Will you nod your head and turn a deaf ear on this opportunity to evangelize as well?
So shall My word be that goeth forth out of My mouth: it shall not return unto Me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. Isaiah 55:11
