Today's Christian thought: Wednesday December 17th, 2003

Whose birthday is it anyhow?

In just days we will be celebrating CHRISTmas. And I am sure you are asking those you love what they would like for gifts on CHRISTmas. I know you are hoping that you will get exactly what you want on CHRISTmas. But, you know, it isn't your birthday we are celebrating, it is Christ Jesus' whose birth we celebrate on December 25th. So, have you given any thought to what you'll give the Lord on His birthday?

I am sure you have spent much time pondering what would be the perfect gift for your wife and your kids, but have you given any thought to what you'll give the King of kings, the Lord of lords for His birthday, His 2,003rd birthday?

Oh, I know, it is difficult. After all, what do you get someone who has absolutely everything? For yes, the Lord Jesus does have everything, for: " In the beginning was the Christ, and the Christ was with God, and the Christ was God. Christ was in the beginning with God. All things were made through Christ, and without Christ nothing was made that was made." The Apostle John (John 1:1-3)

So, yes, since Jesus is the creator of the world, the heavens, the universe, and all things in and on those places. I guess it would be easy to say "What can I get Him, for He has everything.". But, still it is His birthday and we should get Him something. For after all, think of what He has given you. Life, air, gravity, water, blood, eye sight, speech, the earth to live on, animals to pet and ride, kids to love and care for and so many other things, like the only way to salvation. But, what to get Him, a tough question to be sure, but what can and should you give the One who truly has all things? " For by Christ all things were created that are in heaven and that are on earth, visible and invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers. All things were created through Christ and for Christ. And Christ is before all things, and in Christ all things consist. And Christ is the head of the body, the church, who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead, that in all things Christ may have the preeminence. For it pleased the Father that in Christ all the fullness should dwell, and by Christ to reconcile all things to Himself, by Christ, whether things on earth or things in heaven, having made peace through the blood of Christ cross." The Apostle Paul (Colossians 1:16-20)

So, what can you give He who created all things? Can you go into a person's closet and take one of his shirts and wrap it up and give it to him as if it were new for a birthday gift? Can you go into your wifes jewelry box take out a ring, wrap it up and give it to her as a new gift? Of course not. So, what do you give the God of Creation? May I be so bold as to suggest a list of possible gifts for the King of kings, the Lord of lords for His birthday?

You could I suppose give Him what He has told you He wants:

" Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you:" Jesus, (Matthew 28:19&20)

Or maybe you could "Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature." Jesus, (Mark 16:15)

Or perhaps you could give the Lord this for His birthday: " That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another." Jesus, (John 13:34)

But you know something I think the Lord would really like for His birthday? How about: " men love your wives as you do your own bodies. For he that loves his wife loves himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourishes and cherishes it:" (Ephesians 5:28&29)

So men, how about, as a gift for the Lord this year, a pledge that you will love your wife and your children, with the same love that Christ loves the church and has given Himself for it. I think He'll like that. As a matter of fact I know He will like that.

Lord help us to remember it was You, not some guy named holiday or something called season, or a buffoon named x that left the throne of heaven to come and be the perfect sacrifice for our sins. Help us to remember that it is You who gave it all for us. And that it is You we not only owe our lives to but our salvation as well. Thank You Lord and Happy Birthday Lord, amen.

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush and Michael have, they, Rush, Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
