If only more Christians were as firm for Christ

Yesterday, my wife and I drove down to Kennebunk, Maine. We drove down to pick up a used pullout couch we had bought sight unseen for fifty bucks. When we got there, the couch was sitting in the garage and the man selling it gone, but his wife was there as were some healthy young teenage boys willing and able to lift this monster into my truck. Praise GOD!!!

So, after looking this couch up and down, sitting on it and asking the usual mind dead questions that we ask about used things that we have no idea of what to ask about, I said "Not bad, will you take $40.00 for it?" She said "I don't know, I'll have to call and ask my husband." Gotta tell you, I'm impressed. Here is a woman whose husband is working on the Lord's day, but she has enough respect for him to defer to his judgement even when he isn't there. How many Christian marriages would have been saved if only the wife in those marriages had been willing to be as dutiful as this one.

So she picked up one of those cell phone things and called her husband. I got on the phone with him and said, "Hi we are here to buy your couch and we do like it, but, are you willing to take $40.00 for it?". Now over the years I have bought a lot of used stuff, and what I have found is that when you are there with cash in hand ready to hand that cash over, people are willing to deal. So, I was a bit surprised when he said "No, I'll wait for the fifty." Now I am really impressed, here is a man whose wife is not willing to go over his head and a man who is not willing to compromise his price. To give you some idea of how surprised I was by this husband and wife, I don't know if they are Born Again Christians because I never thought to ask. Now many of you know me, and to know me is to know that very few get to leave me without answering the question: "Are you Born Again?". But this man, his wife and their obedient son who obediently lifted our couch into the truck really took me by surprise.

Many of you that I have met out there have wives and children like the couple above, some of you men are even as non compromising on the Lord as this man was over ten bucks, but, many of you have wives who would not have called but simply said something to me like "ok" or "how about $45.?". Many of you have sons who would have obeyed you and lifted up the couch, but many of your children would have needed to be called a half dozen time s and then moaned and groaned, bellyached and muttered under their breath before lifting the couch.

I don't know a lot about that couple in Kennebunk, I don't know if they are destined for heaven or hell, I don't know if they have more children or not, I don't know if they are rich or poor in the things of this world, but this I do know, the man of the house is the man of the house and there are many Christian wives and children out there that would do wise to emulate their behavior.

Now before I get to the point of telling you about yesterday's trip to buy the couch, I want to tell you something important. As I have told you many times before, I am neither a prophet nor the son of a prophet, but I do read, study and learn from the word of God. And one thing is becoming more and more self evident to me. And that thing is this. The seed of Abraham, Isaac, had two sons. The one, Jacob became the head of the families that made up the children of God. The other, Esau became the father of those whom God has used time and time again to inflict punishment upon His chosen when ever they became to unruly and disobedient.

The first of Isaac's seed were the Hebrews who became know as the Jews. Then God came as man named Jesus to be the Light of and to the world, we who have put our trust, our faith and our love in Him are Born Again Christians, His adopted sons and daughters. And like the Jews of old and current I might add, we too are errant at times. And in no time in the past have we been more errant than we are today.

The seed of Esau became what is now known as the muslims. God has used that seed innumerable times in the past to set His children back on line, but never without first giving them warnings, several warnings each larger than the one before it.

Over the last 26 years we have had one attack on us after another by this seed of Esau. Starting with the attack, capture and humiliation of our embassy and then our Military by the Iranians. Then the attacks on our embassies, the USS Cole, and finally with the attack that killed three thousand on September 11th, 2001.

One need not be a prophet to see the handwriting on the wall. For a two bit bunch of evil cave dwelling seed of satan to accomplish the things they have against the mightiest nation on earth can mean only one thing, and that one thing is that God is using them to get our attention. He is saying to us: "Repent!".

Now what, you ask, has that got to do with the family in Kennebunk and the couch? The point is that we, the Christian community within the USA, must get our Christian house in order. Christian men must be as uncompromising in Christ as that man in Kennebunk was over the ten dollars. Christian wives must get back to honoring and obeying their husbands. And the children within Christian families must be taught to be obedient and Christ's.

Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the Saviour of the body. Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing.

Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave Himself for it; That He might sanctify and cleanse it with the washing of water by the word, that He might present it to Himself a glorious church, not having spot, or wrinkle, or any such thing; but that it should be holy and without blemish. So ought men to love their wives as their own bodies. He that loveth his wife loveth himself. For no man ever yet hated his own flesh; but nourisheth and cherisheth it, even as the Lord the church:

For we are members of Christ body, of His flesh, and of His bones. For this cause shall a man leave his father and mother, and shall be joined unto his wife, and they two shall be one flesh. (Ephesians 5: 22-31 ACP/KJV)

As for your children, well, there are, according to the Lord, only two types of children: The field is the world; the good seed are the children of the kingdom; but the tares are the children of the wicked one; (Matthew 13:38 ACP/KJV) How you raise your children will go a long way in determining whether they will be Children of God or children of satan.

So men, as we approach the new year, let us commit to ourselves to praying every day for our wives and our children, let us commit to Bible reading with them daily, let us commit ourselves to the Lord with as much steadfastness and zeal as the man in Kennebunk did about that ten dollars. And you wives, get your heads out of the secular teachings back into the Word of God. Obey your husbands in all things. Loving, honoring him and obeying him. Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement. (1 Peter 3:6 ACP/KJV) "not afraid with any amazement" means not falling for the wiles and teachings of the world, the servants of satan who would destroy your marriage by undermining your respect for your husband. Can you not be as obedient and respectful to your husband as that woman in Kennebunk was to her husband? Not even willing to compromise her respect for him by taking it upon herself to negotiate between an offer of $40 and an asking price of $50.

And you children as the year new year approaches, turn off the tv, turn off the morals taught in the public schools, turn off from the computer games and get your heads on straight, for God was not joking when He said: Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee. (Exodus 20:12) Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. (Colossians 3:20)

Men, Christ has placed your wife and your children in your hands. They are the only ting you can take to heaven with you. Make it the work of 2004 to get them there. Starting today, for there is nothing left in prophecy, that I can see, that needs to be done before the Lord God of Creation comes back for His church. Don't let them or yourself be left behind.

Lord help us to be as uncompromising in you as that man in Kennebunk was over ten dollars. No Lord make us even more uncompromising, even less willing to budge even an inch off of our love and devotion for You. Amen.

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush and Michael have, they, Rush, Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
