Would you have believed Mary the mother of James?

As we approach the end of the year, we also approaching the end of the age, we may very well be even closer to the end of the age than we care to think. For while we will be closing out the Book of Luke today with Luke chapter 24, we could, instead, easily be concentrating on Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21. For as you all know there has been a great earthquake, this great earthquake caused a great wave and that great wave has caused over 100,000 deaths. These deaths of man and beast has resulted in reports that cause great fear of pestilence, pestilence that will kill even more than the great wave killed. So, in light of this news, why are we going to Luke 24 instead of going back to Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21?

Because as we close out the year 2004 and move closer to the end of the age, it is important to study how Jesus ended His earthly ministry and to ask ourselves some hard questions. Not the least of which is: Would you have believed Mary the mother of James?

Mary, the mother of James, which James? Which Mary? Was this Mary the mother of the James that was the brother of John? Or was it Mary the mother of James the writer of the epistle of James, the half brother of the Lord Jesus, the Christ? I'm not sure, but this I am sure of, we need to, as we end the year and maybe the age, think long and hard to ourselves, would we have believed this Mary, the mother of James?

Luke Chapter Twenty-Two

1,2&3 Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they(Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women...) came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them. And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre(Grave that Jesus ha been placed in). And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.

4,5,6,&7 And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments: And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, "Why seek ye the living among the dead? He is not here, but is risen: remember how He spake unto you when He was yet in Galilee, saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again."

8,9,10&11 And they remembered His words, and returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest. It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles. And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.

12 Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.

13,14,15,&16 And, behold, two of them went that same day to a village called Emmaus, which was from Jerusalem about threescore furlongs. And they talked together of all these things which had happened. And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus Himself drew near, and went with them. But their eyes were holden(mentally unknowing or unseeing) that they should not know Him.

17&18 And He said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad? And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto Him, "Art Thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?"

19,20,&21 And He said unto them, What things? And they said unto Him, "Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people: And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered Him to be condemned to death, and have crucified Him. But we trusted that it had been He which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.

22,23,&24 Yea, and certain women also of our company made us astonished, which were early at the sepulchre; And when they found not His body, they came, saying, that they had also seen a vision of angels, which said that He was alive. And certain of them which were with us went to the sepulchre, and found it even so as the women had said: but Him they saw not."

25,26,&27 Then He said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken: Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into His glory? And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, He expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning Himself.

28&29 And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and He made as though He would have gone further. But they constrained Him, saying, "Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent." And He went in to tarry with them.

30,31,&32 And it came to pass, as He sat at meat with them, He took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them. And their eyes were opened, and they knew Him; and He vanished out of their sight. And they said one to another, "Did not our heart burn within us, while He talked with us by the way, and while He opened to us the scriptures?"

33,34,35,&36 And they rose up the same hour, and returned to Jerusalem, and found the eleven gathered together, and them that were with them, saying, "The Lord is risen indeed, and hath appeared to Simon." And they told what things were done in the way, and how He was known of them in breaking of bread. And as they thus spake, Jesus Himself stood in the midst of them, and saith unto them, Peace be unto you.

37,38,39,&40 But they were terrified and affrighted, and supposed that they had seen a spirit. And He said unto them, Why are ye troubled? and why do thoughts arise in your hearts? Behold My hands and My feet, that it is I Myself: handle Me, and see; for a spirit hath not flesh and bones, as ye see Me have. And when He had thus spoken, He shewed them His hands and His feet.

41,42,43,&44 And while they yet believed not for joy, and wondered, He said unto them, Have ye here any meat? And they gave Him a piece of a broiled fish, and of an honeycomb. And He took it, and did eat before them. And He said unto them, These are the words which I spake unto you, while I was yet with you, that all things must be fulfilled, which were written in the law of Moses, and in the prophets, and in the psalms, concerning Me.

45,46,47,48,&49 Then opened He their understanding, that they might understand the scriptures. And said unto them, Thus it is written, and thus it behoved Christ to suffer, and to rise from the dead the third day: And that repentance and remission of sins should be preached in His name among all nations, beginning at Jerusalem. And ye are witnesses of these things. And, behold, I send the promise of My Father upon you: but tarry ye in the city of Jerusalem, until ye be endued with power from On High.

50,51,52,&53 And He led them out as far as to Bethany, and He lifted up His hands, and blessed them. And it came to pass, while He blessed them, He was parted from them, and carried up into heaven. And they worshipped Him, and returned to Jerusalem with great joy: And were continually in the temple, praising and blessing God. Amen. (Luke 24:1-53 ACP/KJV)

So, would you have believed Mary, the mother of James? If it had been you on the road would you have recognize Jesus? Would you have even left Jerusalem? Do you understand why Jesus made it so painful and literally impossible to fulfill all of the Prophecies concerning His coming as the Messiah?

Does your heart burn within you for the knowledge of Scripture? Does it nearly explode when the Holy Spirit opens your understanding of Scripture? Have you truly repented of your sins? Do you actually understand the importance of repenting, seriously and honestly repenting of your zillions of sins? Now that you know Jesus, do you rejoice in that knowledge and in Him?

I know that is a lot of questioning, but, it is important that you search yourself to see what your answers would be. For, and let us get back to that great earthquake, wave, number of deaths and concern for pestilence for a minute.

No lesser authority than Jesus Himself has told us in Matthew 24, Mark 13, and Luke 21, that one of the sure signs that the end is near is, is earthquakes and pestilence. Now, in His own words:

And ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars: see that ye be not troubled: for all these things must come to pass, but the end is not yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be famines, and pestilences, and earthquakes, in divers places. All these are the beginning of sorrows. (Matthew 24:6-8ACP/KJV)

And when ye shall hear of wars and rumours of wars, be ye not troubled: for such things must needs be; but the end shall not be yet. For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. (Mark 13:7&8ACP/KJV)

But when ye shall hear of wars and commotions, be not terrified: for these things must first come to pass; but the end is not by and by. Then said He unto them, Nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: And great earthquakes shall be in divers places, and famines, and pestilences; and fearful sights and great signs shall there be from heaven.

But before all these, they shall lay their hands on you, and persecute you, delivering you up to the synagogues, and into prisons, being brought before kings and rulers for My name's sake.

And it shall turn to you for a testimony. (Luke 21:9-13 ACP/KJV)

So, you see, Jesus has told us that as the very end approaches, that as we enter the immediate time before He raptures His church, (us, the church of Philadelphia, the Born Again Washed n the Blood of the Lamb Christian community), will see earthquakes, famine, pestilence and before these things really get bad, we, His true ones, will be persecuted. And that out of our persecution will come strong testimonies to Jesus as the Christ.

Oh, by the way, have you read the newspapers anytime over the last forty or fifty years? No, how about over the last 70, 80 or 90 years? For did I forget to mention wars and rumors of wars?

If you have trouble honestly answering my questions today, how are you going to deal with what is on the horizon? Let me end with a little reminder or two:

And fear not them which kill the body, but are not able to kill the soul: but rather fear Him which is able to destroy both soul and body in hell.

Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.

Whosoever therefore shall confess Me before men, him will I confess also before My Father which is in heaven. But whosoever shall deny Me before men, him will I also deny before My Father which is in heaven.

Think not that I am come to send peace on earth: I came not to send peace, but a sword. For I am come to set a man at variance against his father, and the daughter against her mother, and the daughter in law against her mother in law. And a man's foes shall be they of his own household. He that loveth father or mother more than Me is not worthy of Me: and he that loveth son or daughter more than Me is not worthy of Me. And he that taketh not his cross, and followeth after Me, is not worthy of Me. He that findeth his life shall lose it: and he that loseth his life for My sake shall find it. He that receiveth you receiveth Me, and he that receiveth Me receiveth Him that sent Me. (Matthew 10:28-40 ACP/KJV)

And last but in no way least: No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the Other; or else he will hold to the One, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. (Matthew 6:24 ACP/KJV)

Gentlemen, you know what is right. You know what God says and tells you to do. You know the difference between Right and wrong. Do you choices and actions show that you know the difference between God and evil and that you have chosen Good over evil? God over satan?

If you died right this very second, would you hear Jesus say; "Welcome home!" or would you hear Him say; "you denied Me." It would be one or the other, for there aint no purgatory!

The Lord be with you all as you do what is called retrospection, not retrospection on your secular life but your Christianity. Amen.

May the Lord understand the importance of Mac, Cecily, Steve, and Rev. Jim Marstaller to this ministry. Lord I need them both healthy and able to continue to hold up their ends. Lord this cancer of Mac's is starting to get in the way, this ministry needs him whole, just a thought Lord, is all it will take, just a thought on Your part.

There is a young man, a veteran who suffers from some kind of chemical weapon exposure, in a Veterans hospital in Colorado, he is young, and he is Saved, yet his wife just abandoned him. Please pray for him, Lord, help him and deal with her and those who hurt him, we ask this of the Father in Your name Lord Jesus, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with and bless you all, amen.

The difference between a true preacher and a false preacher comes down to this. The true preacher uses God's word to convict of sin, the false preacher twist God's word to justify sin. The Lord our God, Christ Jesus be with you always, amen.

The Lord our God, Christ Jesus, be with you all and please keep your pastor and me in your prayers. Amen. My prayer daily is "Lord please bless those tenfold who bless me."

Pray for my friend Mac, pray for Rush Limbaugh, Sean Hannity and Michael Savage. While the Lord does not need the platforms and audiences that Rush, Sean and Michael have, they, Rush, Sean and Michael and their audiences need the Lord.

Pray for the President, pray for Attorney General John Ashcroft, pray for me, pray for all those who open their mouths or take pen in hand in an effort to sway public opinion.

The Lord God of the Universe, Messiah Y'shua be with you all, amen.

It is better to be a horse fly in the stables of the Lord Jesus than the CEO of hell.

All Scripture quoted, in both sermons and daily thoughts, except when done by a guest, is from the ACP/authorized 1611 King James Version. The words in red are those quotes of God the Son, the Lord Jesus and the words in purple are those qoutes spoken directly by God the Father and the words in this sickly greenish color are of satan. But all of the Bible is spoken by God and should be viewed as God's handbook for us to run our lives by 2 Timothy 3:16.
