Almost 2003. Friday December 27th, 2002

Well, the 2,002nd celebration of the birth of Our Lord and our Saviour Christ Jesus has come and gone. And for many, there will be no more thought of the Lord till either Easter or for another 363 days and His 2,003rd birthday bash. Let that not happen to you.

Let's take a moment, if we can, to think about possible New Year's resolutions. How about one that serves a number of purposes? Do you know what the shortest verse in the Bible is? It is found in the Gospel of John, chapter eleven, verse thirty five: Jesus wept.

Jesus wept. That is the entire verse. How about a New Year's resolution that would give the Lord something to smile about?

And ye shall rejoice before the LORD your God, ye, and your sons, and your daughters, and your menservants, and your maidservants, and the Levite that is within your gates; forasmuch as he hath no part nor inheritance with you. (Deuteronomy 12:12 ) How about a resolution that not only does not cause the Lord to weep, but also causes you and your sons and daughters to rejoice, to be joyful, to have happiness?

What if you could find a resolution for ths coming new year that would be good for you, your family and the Lord all at the same time? Would you consider doing it? Would you still consider it if it took a half hour of your time? How about fifteen minutes? What if it took but five minutes of your time?

Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD:

And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:

And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. (Deuteronomy 6:4-7)

Can you, for a New Year's resolution, promise yourself and the Lord that you will each morning hug your wife and your kids and as you do, ask God to bless them and guard them throughout the day? Can you then at night say a little prayer with them, maybe read a verse or two of Scripture, and if you have the time, ask them about their day?

If you can, if you can spend as little as five minutes each day, asking the Lord to help you care for your family and thanking Him at night, you will give the Lord much to smile about. For a moment, He will not weep over this earth with sadness, but smile with happiness. If you can spend ten minutes, fifteen or twenty minutes each day, His smile will only get broader. Would it not be nice to think that you put a smile on the Lord's face?

Think about this, which of you does not like to have your children put a smile on your face? Do you not think that if you, being sinful like to smile, how much more God, being pure and perfect loves to have His children put a smile on His face?

Let us commit to putting a smile on the Lord's face, by spending just five minutes a day doing the thing that makes Him smile, having His children tell their children about Him and praying to Him.

The Lord bless you all,

God blessed America when she feared Him, now it appears, she may face His wrath.
