Did Jesus forget something? Wednesday October 9th, 2002
First we are going to look at a couple of verses of Scripture from the Gospel as dictated to Matthew by God Almighty.
Then one of them, which was a lawyer, asked Jesus a question, tempting Him, and saying, "Master, which is the great commandment in the law?"
Jesus said unto him, Thou shalt love the Lord thy God with all thy heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy mind. This is the first and great commandment. (Matthew 22:35-38)
Do you notice how, when asked, Jesus says that the most important of the commandments is a summary of Exodus 20:2-7. Yet, back in Matthew nineteen when asked pretty much the same question, Jesus said this:
And, behold, one came and said unto Jesus, "Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?" And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou Me good? there is none good but One, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.
He saith unto Him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness, honor thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbor as thyself.
The young man saith unto Him, "All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?" Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow Me.
But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions. (Matthew 19:16-22)
Did Jesus forget the most important commandment(s)? Did He forget to tell the young rich man about the most important commandment(s):
And God spake all these words, saying,
I am the LORD thy God, which have brought thee out of the land of Egypt, out of the house of bondage, thou shalt have no other gods before Me!
Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: thou shalt not bow down thyself to them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate Me! And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love Me, and keep My commandments.
Thou shalt not take the name of the LORD thy God in vain; for the LORD will not hold him guiltless that taketh His name in vain! (Exodus 20:1-7)
Did Jesus forget these?
No, He not only didn't forget, He told us very clearly that He is God. He said: "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow Me."
He said, get rid of that stuff you worship, money, silver, gold, land, slaves, etc and worship Me.
Yes, not only did Jesus not forget the first and greatest commandment, He acknowledged that He is God. He said: "If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow Me." Go and sell everything you have, give the proceeds to the poor and you will rewarded in heaven. And "come and follow Me."
I will be gone for the next week, I and Cec are going to Maryland to visit our new granddaughter.
The Lord be with you all.
God blessed America when she feared Him, now it appears, she may face His wrath.
