How often we fight over silly things. Weekend of November 9th&10th, 2002
How often we, as Christians, fight within the Body of Christ, over silly, silly things. Let me give you an example if I may. How many of you have heard and seen interdenominational fights over the Sabbath Day?
Yet, what does the Lord say about the sabbath?
And Jesus entered again into the synagogue; and there was a man there which had a withered hand. And the Pharisees and others Jews watched Him, to see whether Jesus would heal the man with the crippled hand on the sabbath day; so that they might accuse Him.
And Jesus saith unto the man which had the withered hand, Stand forth. And then Jesus saith unto the Pharisees and others Jews, Is it lawful to do good on the sabbath days, or to do evil? to save life, or to kill? But they held their peace.
And when Jesus had looked round about on them with anger, being grieved for the hardness of their hearts, He saith unto the man, Stretch forth thine hand! And he stretched it out: and his hand was restored whole as the other. (From Mark 3:1-5)
And it came to pass, that as Jesus went through the corn fields on the sabbath day; and His disciples began, as they went, to pluck the ears of corn. And the Pharisees said unto Him, "Behold, why do they on the sabbath day that which is not lawful?" And Jesus said to them, Have ye never read what David did, when he had need, and was an hungred, he, and they that were with him? How he went into the house of God in the days of Abiathar the high priest, and did eat the shewbread, which is not lawful to eat but for the priests, and gave also to them which were with him?
Then Jesus said to them, The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: Therefore the Son of man is Lord also of the sabbath. (From Mark 2:23-28)
My point here is simply this, on the day which is the sabbath, the day we Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christians celebrate the resurrection of the Lord Jesus from the grave and His complete and everlasting victory over death, His word teaches us how to act and behave.
Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the LORD made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (Exodus 20:8-11)
Now the above could have very easily been like this: Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days I made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the I the LORD blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it. (From Exodus 20:8-11)
You see, Jesus, God the Son and God the Father are one and the same, and therefore the words they dictated to man for Their book, the Holy Bible could be in either the color of God the Father's speech or God the Son's speech.
Now, let's go back to something. God the Son, Jesus said: The sabbath was made for man, and not man for the sabbath: So, how are we to act on the Sabbath Day, Sunday, Resurrection Remembrance Day?
Keep it Holy, so what does that mean? Just what God has said, keep it holy. How hard is that? How hard is it to spend the day occupied with doing good in the name of the Lord, resting in the Name of and giving thanks to the Lord?
So, on Sunday morning, get up, get the family together, and head off to church to celebrate all that God has done by hearing His word and Celebrating Him as Lord and King. Use the day to give your children examples of the wonders of God:
Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all His statutes and His commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son's son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged.
Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And these words, which I command thee this day, shall be in thine heart:
And thou shalt teach them diligently unto thy children, and shalt talk of them when thou sittest in thine house, and when thou walkest by the way, and when thou liest down, and when thou risest up. (Deuteronomy 6:1-7)
So, how is the best way to spend the Sabbath? With your family in praise and wonder to God. Use the time to join with other solid Born Again Washed in the Blood of the Lamb Christians, let your children hear solid God based and quoting sermons and then spend the day loving your wife and your children giving your sons an example in how to be a Christian father both by your words and your actions.
Lord bless us this Sabbath weekend, bless us and keep us close to Thee, under Thy wing and protected in the time of sorrows. In Your name Lord Jesus we pray.
God blessed America when she feared Him, now it appears, she may face His wrath.
